Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck out of Germany squad with ankle injury
The Germany Football Association (DFB) has confirmed that Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck is out of Germany's squad for their October UEFA Nations League ties against Serbia and Greece due to an ankle ligament injury sustained in training on Wednesday.
Schlotterbeck played the full 90 minutes of Jürgen Klopp's first fixture as Germany coach, a 1-1 draw away to the Netherlands last week.
He was then left out of the matchday squad for the subsequent 1-0 defeat to Greece in Augsburg, having just recently returned from an ankle ligament injury that ruled him out of the end of Germany's 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign and Dortmund's first two 2026/27 Bundesliga fixtures.
There was no immediate indication of whether a replacement will be called into the Germany squad for the defender, or how long he will be sidelined for with the injury.
Dortmund resume the 2026/27 Bundesliga campaign as early-season pacesetters on Matchday 5 against Werder Bremen on Friday 9 October (kick-off: 8.30pm CEST).
