Bo Henriksen dismissed as Mainz head coach
Mainz have relieved Bo Henriksen of his duties as head coach with immediate effect.
An official statement on the Mainz website confirmed that club leadership and the Danish tactician "mutually agreed to end their working relationship" on Wednesday.
"Mainz 05 is a fantastic club with wonderful people and amazing fans," Henriksen said. "We achieved so much together, and I’m incredibly grateful for all the experiences and the time we shared. Thank you for the tremendous support.
"Unfortunately, this season we weren’t able to play the same successful football, even though we fought for it right to the end. That’s football sometimes. I sincerely wish the club and the team all the best, and I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for the upcoming matches and a successful season.”
Henriksen took charge in February 2024, with the team struggling in the relegation places. The 50-year-old managed to spark an immediate turnaround, guiding Mainz to the safety of 13th place.
That was followed by a sensational sixth-placed finish in 2024/25, thereby earning a spot in the UEFA Conference League. However, things have not gone as smoothly this term, with the 05ers currently bottom of the Bundesliga standings and winless since mid-September.
U23s coach Benjamin Hoffmann will replace Henriksen on an interim basis, with Mainz next in action at home to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday.
