Bayern Munich sign Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson on season-long loan
Bayern Munich have confirmed the signing of Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson on a season-long loan.
Chelsea had originally revoked permission for Jackson to conduct a medical with the record champions and instructed the striker to return to London following an injury to Rory Delap, but a new deal was pushed through on deadline day.
"Nicolas was keen to play for Bayern from the start, so we’re especially pleased that things have finally worked out," said Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl.
"Even at a young age, he already has lots of experience at a top international level and has shown his qualities. Nicolas is an ideal fit for the profile we’re looking for with his dynamism and presence. He’s hungry and will expand our options in attack with his abilities, being an immediate boost for our team.”
Jackson joined Chelsea in the summer of 2023 after scoring 13 goals in 48 games for Villarreal. He has found the back of the net 30 times in 81 outings for his parent club, including in last season's UEFA Conference League final win over Real Betis.
The 14-time Senegal international is Bayern's fourth signing of the summer transfer window after Jonathan Tah, Luis Díaz and Tom Bischof. He will wear the No.11 shirt vacated by Kingsley Coman, and provide back-up for Harry Kane in attack.
"I’m really happy to now be part of this great club," said Jackson, who could make his Bayern debut against Hamburg on 13 September.
"Bayern are one of the best clubs in the world. Everyone knows the names of the legends who’ve played here and knows that this club stands for the greatest success. I’ve got big goals and dreams here and will give my all to help Bayern win further titles."
