Bayern Munich's Mats Hummels is "Germany's best centre-back" - Neven Subotic
Bayern Munich's Mats Hummels is "the complete centre-back", says his former Borussia Dortmund teammate Neven Subotic.
Subotic and Hummels were at the heart of the Dortmund defence that Jürgen Klopp took to back-to-back Bundesliga titles between 2010 and 2012 as well as the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League final.
Hummels has continued to enjoy success since swapping BVB for Bayern in 2016, and Subotic told German TV his ex-teammate remains at the top of his game.
"He's world-class, he's the best centre-back in Germany," said Subotic, who played for French club Saint-Etienne this season.
"For me, he's been the best central defender in Germany in recent years. In an important game, he can play decisive passes, dribble past three men to get to goal, while also doing his job in defence.
"What more do you want from a centre-back? He keeps things tight at the back, he's good going forward. For me, he's the complete centre-back."
Hummels, 30, scored once in 21 Bundesliga appearances in 2018/19, helping Bayern win a seventh successive league title and completed a domestic double with the DFB Cup final defeat of RB Leipzig.
