Bayern Munich edge Paris Saint-Germain in UEFA Champions League
Bayern Munich remain firmly in contention to qualify for the UEFA Champions League knockouts after Minjae Kim's first-half goal gave them a 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain.
Bayern made a confident start at the Allianz Arena, with Jamal Musiala forcing a close-range save from Matvey Safonov inside seven minutes. Leroy Sané was next to test the PSG goalkeeper, while Kingsley Coman drove over following a sensational run that took out five opposition players. PSG had only threatened with speculative strikes when Fabián Ruiz took advantage of a mistake in the Bayern defence and pulled a cross back into the box for Warren Zäire-Emery, who drilled his first-time strike wide. Manuel Neuer pulled off a strong diving save to stop ex-Borussia Dortmund forward Ousmane Dembélé from breaking the deadlock, before Bayern forged ahead. Safonov flapped at a Joshua Kimmich corner, allowing Kim to head the loose ball into the roof of the net. Coman shot narrowly over soon after and Kimmich drew a diving save from Safonov as the record champions took a deserved half-time lead.
Bayern were given a numerical boost after the restart when Dembéle received a second yellow card for a late challenge on Alphonso Davies. Vincent Kompany's charges controlled the play for long stretches thereafter, albeit with clear-cut chances at a premium. Safonov denied substitute Michael Olise and pushed a Musiala strike onto the woodwork with the best of them, but not before PSG's Nuno Mendes had gone within a whisker of turning a dangerous Lee Kang-in free-kick goalwards. Substitute Thomas Müller curled wide in the closing stages as Bayern patiently probed until the last. Now with clean sheets in their last seven competitive fixtures, the six-time European champions climb into the play-off places, ahead of key fixtures against Shakhtar Donetsk, Feyenoord and Slovan Bratislava.

Neuer comes a long way from goal to dribble round a PSG player and sweep a superb diagonal ball into the path of Coman on the left wing. It's helped on to Musiala via Sané, but the youngster's first touch lets him down and a defender can clear. If he got that right, Bayern would surely have gone 2-0 up.

Here we go again...
Kick-off!
Half-time: Bayern 1-0 PSG
Kim's first Champions League goal is the difference at the break. Bayern have been the better side, with Coman a particular nuisance for the PSG defence. Another goal should put the game beyond the visitors, whose best openings have come from defensive mistakes.
Kane feeds the run of Sané, who jinks away from Pacho but can only shoot straight down the throat of the goalkeeper.

Bayern lead!
Kim heads home from close range after Safonov fails to clear a Kimmich corner. There's a check for a possible foul on the PSG keeper, but the goal stands.
Coman gets the better of Hakimi and feeds Kane to his right. It looks like he might take on a shot, but he instead looks for Sané on the overlap. Unfortunately, the Englishman completely overcooks his attempted pass into the penalty area. Head in hands - his reaction says it all.

Neuer with the stop!
Bayern's captain has still got it, the 38-year-old diving to his right to stop Dembélé crowning a mazy run with the opening goal. Neves then flashes the loose ball wide from range.

PSG almost punish a mistake from Sané, but the unmarked Zäire-Emery is unable to direct Ruiz's cut-back on target. Let-off for Bayern, who have otherwise been in control.

Easy for Neuer
Dembélé takes advantage of another loose Davies pass, but his 20-yard strike doesn't have the power to trouble Manuel Neuer in the Bayern goal.

Coaches' greetings
Kompany and Luis Enrique have said hello before their first meeting on the touchline. Their only previous head-to-head came when Kompany was playing for Manchester City in 2015 and was knocked out of the Champions League last 16 by Luis Enrique's Barcelona who went on to win the tournament.
Watch: All of Leroy Sané's 2023/24 Bundesliga goals & assists
Here's why Sané has been brought back in by Kompany tonight. The winger was in electric form last season with 10 goals and 12 assists in all competitions.
More on those teams
Kompany makes two changes to the side that beat Augsburg 3-0, bringing in Laimer for Guerreiro at right back and Leroy Sané for Olise up top. Luis Enrique produces a string of changes from the 3-0 win over Toulouse. Marquinos, Pacho and Nuno Mendes return at the back for Skriniar, Beraldo and Zague. Further up the pitch Doué and Asensio drop out for Vitinha and Fabián Ruiz.
After today's match Vincent Kompany's side face Shakhtar Donetsk (a), Feyenoord (a) and Slovan Bratislava (h) in their three final league phase fixtures. That's the Ukrainian and Slovakian champions plus last season's runners-up from the Netherlands.
The start of a huge week for Bayern
Things don't get any easier once tonight is over and done with for Bayern. Next up is Der Klassiker in Dortmund on Saturday, and then they host Leverkusen in the last 16 of the DFB Cup on Tuesday.
Müller on the prospect of another final in Munich
"I'm not a dreamer, but of course it's appealing. I would want to be in the Champions League final even if it wasn't in Munich. What happened [in 2012, defeat to Chelsea], what happened after the game – simply put, it was powerful, the way it moved people. I'm a fan of allowing a little bit of emotion, no matter which way it goes."

Watch: What makes Harry Kane so good?
Here's why PSG will have such a tough time keeping a clean sheet tonight. Kane is the most productive player in Europe's big five leagues with 14 goals and six assists.
Ones to watch
Harry Kane is undoubtedly the most dangerous player on the pitch with the joint-most goals in Europe this season with five. For PSG, Achraf Hakimi has been their top performer in Europe, but Bradley Barcola is the one to watch given he leads Ligue 1 with 10 goals and two assists.
Watch: Achraf Hakimi's best goals and assists for Dortmund
As a reminder of how special Hakimi was for BVB, here are some of his best moments in Black and Yellow.
Old acquaintances
Although PSG's former Bayern defender Lucas Hernandez will be out of action, Bundesliga fans will be more than familiar with several other players in the Parisian ranks: the former Dortmund pair of Achraf Hakimi and Ousmane Dembelé as well as Eintracht Frankfurt alumni Randal Kolo Muani and Willian Pacho.
"It's been a while since I've felt as good as I do now. The numbers are also really good. I feel really good. As an experienced player, you learn a lot from phases in the game. Since I've been at Bayern, my numbers have kept going up. I hope that keeps going and we can lift our level even further."
"It'll be a tough game. They're a good team. They try to be dominant with possession. But we also try that as well. We want to make it as tough as possible for the opposition, which we've managed well this season. My role in pressing is clearly agreed with the coach. Our pressing has worked well so far. A lot of it is more mental than just running."
"We know they're a great team with world-class players. They haven't conceded any goals in the past few games, are having a great spell. They'll apply pressure tomorrow. We'll try to cause them difficulties. It's the greatest motivation to play a game like this, especially against Bayern Munich. Playing in the Champions League is the biggest thing. We need to take the positives from the pressure. We want to win tomorrow."
Luis Enrique on Bayern
"Bayern are an historic club. Their idea of football is similar to our approach. We both want possession. We'll see two teams tomorrow who want a good result, so it'll be a good game. We're among the three best teams in terms of creating chances."
"We also kept a clean sheet before the Barcelona game. We've stayed calm and worked hard. We knew the season was going well till then. We also knew that it wasn't perfect. It never is. The team is running, fighting, then there was the game against Barcelona. The important thing is that we learn from those moments. We'll now look at the next game and keep going."
Kompany on getting his first win against 'a big team'
"It doesn't make a difference to me. The important thing is how the team lives and gets better, how every individual develops, although they're already top players. We don't differentiate between games. No game is easy. For us it's a top chance to show our fans something. The mentality always needs to be the same. Hopefully our fans can go home tomorrow with a good feeling."
Kompany on PSG
"It's definitely not their worst team of recent years. It's a squad with incredible talent. Some of their players will play at a very high level in the years to come. The spaces between their lines are never big. Their pressing is good and aggressive. When they have the ball, they have a clear approach. They're really good as a team."
All but one of the last five meetings have ended favourably for Bayern, as they won four of those meetings while losing the other. The most recent of those victories came in the 2022/23 season, when goals from Eric-Maxim Choup-Moting and Serge Gnabry saw them on their way to a 2-0 victory.
Get the ball rolling
Bayern will hope to make it two wins in a row for the first time this season in the Champions League when they face PSG. So far, their two wins in the competition have been separated by two consecutive defeats, against Aston Villa and Barcelona respectively.

Watch: Bayern Munich 3-0 Augsburg - highlights
Harry Kane scored yet another hat-tick as Bayern cruised to victory over local rivals Augsburg and maintained their six point lead at the top of the Bundesliga.
Reunion will have to wait
Former Bayern man Lucas Hernández is set to miss out on the opportunity to face his old side, with him still recovering from a cruciate ligament tear. The Frenchman turned out 107 times in all competitions for the record champions, before moving to the Stade de France in July 2023.
In the last 13 meetings between these sides in UEFA competition, a game has never ended in a draw. Bayern have the advantage, having won seven to PSG's six. Can PSG level the scores on their trip to the Allianz?
Bayern - the story so far
Bayern are two points better off than PSG after bouncing back from defeats to Aston Villa and Barcelona with a 1-0 win over Benfica last time out. They also thrashed Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 on opening night.
PSG are 24th in the 36-team league table, with four points from a possible 12. They started with a 1-0 win over Girona, but have since lost to Arsenal and Atlético Madrid, either side of a 1-1 draw with PSV Eindhoven.
