Bayern Munich confirm Eric Dier to leave at end of the season
Bayern Munich have confirmed that defender Eric Dier will be leaving the club at the end of the season, 18 months after he joined from Tottenham Hotspur.
With Bayern on the verge of stitching up the 2024/25 Bundesliga title, sporting director Christoph Freund confirmed the departure at the club's press conference before facing RB Leipzig.
"We had discussions with Eric about a new contract. He told us that he doesn't want to extend and will leave us," Freund announced. "He's a great guy. We had a great time together. He also felt very much at home here in Munich and at the club. Hopefully he crowns his time with us with his first title."
The 31-year-old England international (49 caps, three goals) initially moved to Bayern on loan from Tottenham in the second half of the 2023/24 season, an arrangement that led to a definitive move the following summer. All told, Dier has made 45 appearances for Bayern, scoring two goals.
Like former Spurs teammate and current Bayern teammate Harry Kane, Dier will lift the first piece of major silverware in his career should the current Bundesliga leaders follow through and claim the title.
