Augsburg seal loan deal for Sporting Lisbon's Rodrigo Ribeiro
Augsburg have announced the signing of Portugal youth international Rodrigo Ribeiro from Sporting Lisbon on loan until the end of the 2025/26 season.
Included in the deal is an option for Die Fuggerstädter to sign the talented 20-year-old forward, who has scored five goals and provided one assist in 11 appearances for Sporting’s B team this term.
"Rodrigo's journey at just 20 years old is impressive. He brings technical quality, dynamic and goals, boosting our options in attack and also competition in that position. That's exactly what we need," said Augsburg sporting director Benni Weber.
The Sporting youth product has European experience having made his professional debut at 16 years, 10 months and nine days, coming on as a substitute against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League in March 2022.
Ribeiro spent the 2023/24 on loan at Nottingham Forest, although opportunities to showcase his talent were limited. Upon returning to his parent club, the now 20-year-old spent last season at AVS Futebol where he featured 20 times in Portugal’s top flight, returning one goal.
A 15-time Portugal U20 international, Ribeiro adds depth to Manuel Baum’s attacking options, with only Heidenheim (16) and St. Pauli (14) scoring fewer than Augsburg's 17 Bundesliga goals so far in 2025/26, as they look to secure their top-flight status.
"The prospects showed to me at Augsburg immediately convinced me. I'm joining an ambitous club that backs young players and gives them a chance to prove themselves," Ribeiro said of his move.
He will wear the No.21 shirt and will watch his new team for the first time as they host Union Berlin on Thursday night.
