Augsburg sign Hoffenheim’s Hennes Behrens
Augsburg have bolstered their defence with the signing of Hennes Behrens from Hoffenheim on a five-year contract through to 2031
Behrens, 21, is right-footed but mostly operates at left-back. He made 16 Bundesliga appearances while on loan at Heidenheim in the second half of 2025/26 - returning one goal and two assists - but was unable to prevent the club's relegation from Germany's top flight after a three-year stay.
"He brings valuable Bundesliga experience at his young age and has already proven his qualities at this level. His physique and abilities make him a very good fit for our team," explained Augsburg sporting director Benjamin Weber.
"I'm looking forward to my time at Augsburg and firmly believe I'm a very good fit here with my style of play. Augsburg offers perfect conditions to develop further and take the next step in my career," added Behrens, whose only two appearances for Hoffenheim - in the Bundesliga and UEFA Europa League - came in 2024/25.
Augsburg - who finished ninth in 2025/26, securing a 16th successive season of Bundesliga football - start the new campaign away to Energie Cottbus in the DFB Cup first round (22 August), before hosting promoted Schalke on Bundesliga Matchday 1 (29/30 August).
