RB Leipzig produce six-goal masterclass to cruise past Augsburg
In-form RB Leipzig consolidated second place in the Bundesliga table with an emphatic 6-0 victory over Augsburg at the WWK Arena.
Augsburg 0-6 RB LeipzigGoals: 0-1 Diomande 10’, 0-2 Rômulo 18’, 0-3 Nusa 22’, 0-4 Baumgartner 38’, 0-5 Ouédraogo 56’, 0-6 Lukeba 65’
Leipzig went into Saturday's Matchday 8 clash on a six-game unbeaten run, while Sandro Wagner's Augsburg were showing signs of improvement after taking four points from their previous two fixtures.
The visitors were also looking to protect a 15-match unbeaten streak against Die Fuggerstädter, who were put to the sword in a blistering opening 45 minutes from Ole Werner's side.
Clinical Leipzig run riot
Han-Noah Massengo and Alexis Claude-Maurice both went close for Augsburg in the early stages, but it was Leipzig who struck first as Rômulo won possession in midfield before feeding Yan Diomande, who cut inside and fired a low shot past Finn Dahmen at his near post.
Werner's charges doubled their advantage eight minutes later when Assan Ouédraogo brilliantly outfoxed Anton Kade on the left before cutting back for Rômulo to slot home from close range.
The nightmare continued for Augsburg in the 22nd minute as Leipzig struck again – this time Diomande setting up Antonio Nusa, who finished coolly for his first Bundesliga goal since January.
No mercy from the visitors
With the match effectively over as a contest, Leipzig remained relentless and Christoph Baumgartner added a fourth seven minutes before the break, his shot from Diomande's pass proving too powerful for Dahmen.
The second half brought no respite for the hosts, with Ouédraogo making it five with a fierce strike from the edge of the box after combining with Baumgartner.
Castello Lukeba completed the rout nine minutes later, capitalising after Dahmen had misjudged David Raum's delivery from a half-cleared corner.
The visitors continued to threaten in the closing stages as substitutes Conrad Harder and Tidiam Gomis both went close, but it stayed 6-0.
Man of the Match: Assan Ouédraogo
In a game full of outstanding Leipzig performances, 19-year-old Ouédraogo stood out above all others.
The teenager was instrumental in Leipzig's second goal, skillfully beating Kade on the left before providing a perfect cut-back for Rômulo. He then added a stunning goal of his own in the second half, unleashing a powerful 104.17 km/h strike from the edge of the area after a clever exchange with Baumgartner.
Beyond his goal contributions, Ouédraogo showcased his all-round ability with intelligent movement, close control under pressure, and mature decision-making throughout his 70 minutes on the pitch, which earned him 27 percent of the poll in the Man of the Match vote.
