Augsburg part ways with head coach Jess Thorup
Augsburg have parted ways with head coach Jess Thorup following an intensive review of the club's 2024/25 season.
Thorup joined Augsburg in October 2023 to replace Enrico Maaßen, and went on to guide them away from the relegation zone to eventually finish 11th. Augsburg finished 12th in the 2024/25 campaign, 14 points above the bottom three and nine off a European qualifying place.
"We would like to thank Jess Thorup for his commitment to Augsburg over the past two years," said managing director Michael Ströll in a statement on the official club website.
"Jess fully identified with Augsburg at all times and stabilised us over the last two years. The decision was anything but easy for us. However, after an intensive review and discussions, we have come to the conclusion to make a change in the position of head coach for the further development and direction of our club. We wish Jess and his family all the very best."

In total, Thorup oversaw 61 Bundesliga games for Augsburg, winning 20, losing 24 and drawing 17. No successor has yet been named.
Sporting director Marinko Jurendic has also been relieved of his duties following the club's season analysis.
