Assan Ouédraogo is set to be out of action for the next few weeks with a knee injury, the Germany teenager's club RB Leipzig have confirmed.

Ouédraogo hurt his left knee in the 53rd minute of Leipzig's 2-0 win over Werder Bremen on Bundesliga Matchday 11. The 19-year-old midfielder went on to score the game's opening goal, before being withdrawn in added time. A medical examination has subsequently revealed a tendon injury in the back of the knee.

"It's a real shame that Assan has been ruled out at this particular point in time. He was on the right track, had made great strides in recent weeks and had become a Germany international," commented Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schäfer.

"This injury is all the more bitter for him and also for us as a team. We're keeping our fingers crossed for Assan and hope he makes a quick and full recovery."

Ouédraogo has been enjoying a breakout Bundesliga campaign after knee and hamstring troubles restricted him to just five appearances for Leipzig last season.

The former Schalke talent has registered three goals and four assists in 12 competitive outings at club level, and marked his senior international debut on 17 November with a goal as Germany beat Slovakia 6-0 to clinch their place at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Ouédraogo's performances have helped Leipzig win eight of their first 11 Bundesliga fixtures in 2025/26, with the Saxony club currently second in the standings, six points behind leaders Bayern Munich.

Ole Werner's team face another four Bundesliga fixtures before the winter break, beginning with a trip to rejuventated Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday. Die Roten Bullen also host Bundesliga 2's Magdeburg in the DFB Cup last 16 on 2 December, ahead of league games against Eintracht Frankfurt (h), Union Berlin (a) and Bayer Leverkusen (h).
