Dani Olmo magic helps Spain beat Albania to seal perfect UEFA Euro 2024 group stage
RB Leipzig's Dani Olmo pulled the strings as Spain capped a perfect Group B campaign with victory over Albania, who are out of UEFA Euro 2024.
Albania 0-1 Spain
Goals: 0-1 Torres 13' (assist: Olmo)
Spain showed 10 changes from the team that beat Italy to book their place in the last 16, Olmo and Bayer Leverkusen's Alejandro Grimaldo among them. Olmo's impact was immediate, the Spain No.10 slipping a pass into the box for Ferran Torres to steer home the opening goal. Olmo set up another great opening soon after, but former Hannover striker Joselu couldn't make the most of it. The Leipzig playmaker had a shot of his own blocked, before ex-Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mikel Merino and Torres spurned two great chances, put on a plate for them by Grimaldo's laser-guided left foot. Kristjan Asllani almost punished the three-time European champions' profligacy on the stroke of half-time, but David Raya made the stop. Raya was called a number of times in the second half, most notably denying Armando Broja in the closing stages to preserve Spain's perfect start to the finals. They will now play one of the four best third-placed teams in Cologne on 30 June. Albania head home, bottom of the section.
