Union had taken the lead through new signing Emmanuel Latte Lath, but a trio of strikes without reply from Younes Ebnoutalib, including two in a minute, appeared to have sealed the points for the Eagles. However, late goals from Leopold Querfeld and Tim Skarke, the latter of which came in added time, secured a point for Mauro Lustrinelli on his Bundesliga coaching debut.
