Full-time: Werder Bremen 0-2 Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund end their season on a high as they win away at Bremen. They dominated for large period, and only a string of Mio Backhaus saves kept the home team level. However, Serhou Guirassy's header around the hour mark, followed by Yan Couto's injury-time finish, secured the win for BVB.

Almost there

Dortmund are close to securing their highest points total since 2018/19 - a win here would take them to 73.
83'

Level! But...

Once again, Bremen are denied by the offside flag. This one is closer, but it is still enough for Coulibaly's low strike to be chalked off.

Goalkeeper Efficiency of Mio Backhaus

info-small
Goalkeeper Efficiency
Goalkeeper Efficiency compares the number of saves a goalkeeper makes with his expected saves (xSaves). xSaves is calculated with the help of artificial intelligence. When a goalkeeper has a positive efficiency value, it means he has saved more shots than statistically expected.

Half-time: Werder Bremen 0-0 Borussia Dortmund

The score remains goalless at the interval. Dortmund started strongly, but Mio Backhaus made three fantastic saves to deny the visitors. Since then, it has been relatively quiet at both ends, meaning it is still all to play in the second period.

Over

A speculative attempt from Schmidt flies well over the crossbar. No chance.

Dortmund ahead on xG

info-small
xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
The xG values suggest Dortmund should be comfortably in front, but football isn't always that simple.

Save

Musah is one-on-one with Kobel, albeit from a very tight angle, and the Swiss goalkeeper is able to make a save.
29'

Goal! But...

A free-kick towards the back post is put into the back of the net by former BVB player Pieper, but the goal is ruled out for offside.
28'

Over

A Svensson corner is curled towards the goalline, but Guirassy's header goes over the crossbar. No danger there.
25'

Quiet

There is a currently a little lull in proceedings, with Bremen circulating possession.
19'

Chance!

Again, Bremen threaten, but on this occasion, a poke towards goal from a tight angle is kept out by Schlotterbeck rather comfortably.
19'

In the middle

Neither team is asserting their authority right now, with the ball being played around the middle of the park without too much danger.
15'

Bouncing around the box

Bremen find themselves in another dangerous position, but there are too many bodies and they can't quite get a real shot off.
12'

Plenty of chances

Dortmund have already had clear-cut opportunities, but they haven't managed to convert one.

Incredible!

The next remarkable Backhaus stop comes as he tips Guirassy's poke over the bar! Still all square.

Great double save!

Backhaus is called into action twice in quick succession, and does brilliantly on both occasions. First, he pushes Guirassy's attempt away from goal, before parrying Inácio's first-time effort on the rebound onto the post.

Milestone of 1,000 to be reached?

While Bayern have netted a record 117 goals alone this season, the 18 Bundesliga sides have plundered 957 between them. As such, the 1,000-goal milestone, which hasn't been reached since 1984/85, could be obtained this term. That would require a hefty 43 strikes across today's nine matches - considerably more than the 3.22 goals averaged per game this season - but crazier things have happened.
camera-photo

Guirassy: "We still have work to do"

The striker also contemplated how Dortmund can close the gap to Bayern at the top of the table. "We still have work to do, because this season was also complicated. Even though we finished second, it was a difficult season, especially in terms of goals scored. If you compare us to Bayern, they have scored 49 more goals than us, so there’s still a lot to improve in our attacking play. We definitely have to work on that."
camera-photo

Guirassy: "I want more goals"

Ahead of Dortmund's final game of the season, Serhou Guirassy sat down to discuss the season on a personal and club level. "I always aim higher," he said. "They are very good statistics [16 goals in 32 games], but for me it’s still not enough. If you ask someone else and they hear 16 goals, they would probably be very happy. But for me, I want more. It’s not enough."
camera-photo

Daniel Thioune on facing Dortmund

“This isn’t a friendly. We want to give another good account of ourselves on Saturday. We haven’t been celebrating, but it’s been a positive end to the season. At one point, we thought we might end up in a different division next term, but we’ve managed to preserve our top-flight status.”
camera-photo

Niko Kovač on facing Bremen

“We’re taking this game very seriously. If someone had told us that we’d comfortably finish the season in second place with 70 points - or potentially 73 - I’d have settled for that right away. We can be pleased with what we’ve accomplished in the Bundesliga.”

Samuele Inácio extends Dortmund deal

Teenage Italian attacker Samuele Inácio has signed a new contract with Dortmund until June 2029. The 18-year-old has made his first six Bundesliga appearances this season, the first of which was in a Klassiker defeat at home to Bayern Munich in February. He got his first goal for Borussia in the recent 3-2 win over Frankfurt.

Pro terms

Mussa Kaba, 17, has signed his first professional contract with Dortmund. "Mussa has great abilities and an impressive physique. It makes him one of the most talented players in German football. We back him to make the step up to our senior team but will give him the time he needs," said sporting director Ole Book of the defensive midfielder, who first joined the BVB academy in 2018.
camera-photo

Auf Wiedersehen

Ahead of kick-off, Bremen will say goodbye to Leonardo Bittencourt (pictured), Maximilian Wöber, Isaac Schmidt and Victor Boniface as the quartet play their final home game for the club before moving on in the summer.
camera-photo

Attacking threat

Serhou Guirassy has struck 16 Bundesliga goals in 32 matches this term, but Dortmund have a secret weapon in their ranks. No defensive duo has scored more than Nico Schlotterbeck and Ramy Bensebaini's 10 Bundesliga goals in 2025/26, with Schlotterbeck's five strikes this term marking a personal best.
camera-photo

Key asset

With 14 assists in the Bundesliga this term, Julian Ryerson is second only to Bayern Munich's Michael Olise. The Norwegian's tally is the best return from a Dortmund player since Jadon Sancho's 16 assists in 2019/20.
camera-photo

Positive impact

When Daniel Thioune took over from Horst Steffen in February, Bremen held a one-point advantage over the promotion/relegation play-off spot. Werder have managed to increase that gap to six, having averaged a point per game since Thioune's arrival.
camera-photo

Improvement needed

Despite slipping to a second successive defeat on Matchday 33, Werder Bremen secured their Bundesliga status with help from RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich. However, another loss against Dortmund on the final day would see Bremen endure their third-worst campaign in Bundesliga history in terms of points.
camera-photo

Consistency key

Niko Kovač has steadied the Borussia Dortmund ship, securing 36 points in the first half of the season and 34 so far in the second. A win against Werder Bremen would see Borussia end the campaign on 73 points, their best tally since finishing with 76 points in 2018/19.
