Full-time: Cologne 0-0 Freiburg

Cologne could now be relegated tomorrow after a scoreless draw where they just didn't have enough quality up front. Timo Schultz gave his side the platform for victory with a huge 20 shots to Freiburg's four, but with no cutting edge, the Bundesliga 2 is on the horizon. A win for Mainz tomorrow and a draw between Union Berlin and Bochum will mean farewell for the Billy Goats with two games to play. Freiburg, meanwhile, reclaim seventh in the table, but had an unremarkable match without a single shot on target meaning it was one Cologne really should have won.

Last chance?

Cologne win a free kick and up comes Schwabe with the team's survival on the line.

Running out of time

It's all Cologne as we head into extra time and the RheinEnergieSTADION is understandably feeling very tense indeed.

Shot dominance

Kainz is the latest to try and beat Atubolu but it's again far too easy for the keeper. Cologne now lead 19 to 4 in shots.

The chances are flowing now

Cologne keep on attacking and their latest effort sees Tigges with a nice try, but it's again too easy for Atubolu.

Last chance for Alidou

Alidou finds his way in from the right and troubles Atublo with a shot, but that will be his last chance as he's withdrawn for Diehl.

Another big chance goes missing

Schmitz makes his way into the Freiburg box after a free kick was cleared but with his teammates queueing up, he left it far too late to pick one out and had his cross blocked.

Huge xG swing

The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
The xG chart shows just how big that Alidou chance was.

Gigantic chance goes begging for Cologne

Tigges fails to connect on a great pass but manages to shift the ball to Alidou for an enormous chance. Sadly for FCK it's too close to Atubolu who makes a fine save.

Another big miss

Freiburg work another brilliant chance and Holer has an open goal from Grifo's cross but his finish goes wide.

Let off for Cologne!

Sallai finds some space on the left and picks his target, however Doan takes a header that was heading for Greogoritsch and his teammate isn't happy.

Huge clearance!

Cologne look destined to score with a cross into the six-yard box but Keitel is there again to cut out a glorious chance.

Finkgrafe threat

Cologne's left back is trying to make things happen but so far Holer and Co are shutting him out.

Target man on

Cologne striker Tigges comes on and as the tallest player on the pitch he will look to increase their threat up front.

Cologne target practice

Cologne are easily leading the scoring charts, but most of their efforts haven't found the target.

Big block!

Martel lets out a wicked shot that looked destined for the back of the net but Keitel gets his head on the effort.

Getting spicy

With the rain pouring the tackles are flying in. Both teams give away free kicks to start the half and Kubler is the first man in the book.
Fouls committed

Should have been the opener

Doan makes some space and slips a brilliant pass into Gregoritsch but the Austria striker fails to connect on a brilliant chance.

Almost a chance!

Finkgrafe flies into the Freiburg box and it looks like he can set up a tap in but his next touch ruins the chance.

Back underway

Freiburg kick us off for the second half and neither manager has made a change.

Half-time: Cologne 0-0 Freiburg

A half low on chances comes to an end. Cologne certainly controlled the game but it was the story of their season as they failed to convert any chances. Freiburg grew into things as the half drew on, but clearly weren't willing to take any risks.

Theilmann the danger man

Theilmann looks most like scoring so far and after a nice run his latest effort is collected by Atubolu.

Shut out

This has been a game heavy on duels so far with every attack stopped just outside of the box.
Tackles won

Maina role

Maina's two shots is the most on the pitch but the midfielder hasn't caused too many problems for Atubolu.

Cologne in control

Cologne are enjoying a lot of possession in the Freiburg half but they're yet to do anything with it.

Keitel at work

Freiburg are starting to dominate the ball and it's thanks to Yannik Keitel who won't let Cologne get a foothold up front.

Nothing yet...

Cologne and Freiburg have both gone close but we're wating for an opener.

Cologne win a corner and after being cleared Thielmann tries his luck from range, Martel very cleverly flicks the ball through his legs to re-direct it but Atubolu reads the chance well.

Yet to find the target

With a number of injuries up front, Cologne's two shots so far have both been off target.

Freiburg star Ritsu Doan needs some treatment after a heavy collision but it looks like he will be fine to continue.

Great start from the Billy Goats

Colgone head straight into Freiburg's box from the off and minutes later they have their first chance. Theilmann picks out Maina with a clever pass into the box but his first-time shot bends the wrong way past the far post.

We're underway

Colgone's iconic “Mer stonn zo dir, FC Kölle" hymn is over and the home side get us started.

Classy from Streich

Freiburg's manager takes time to greet each of the Cologne XI before they head out the tunnel, showing why the departing manager is so loved.

What's at stake

Defeat for Colgone will leave them with at best a relegation/promotion spot to fight for, while a loss or a draw would mean that Mainz can relegate them with victory against Heidenheim tomorrow. Freiburg are still in the hunt for Europe with seventh now guaranteeing a Europa Conference League spot. Hoffenheim leapfrogged them into that berth with a draw on Friday but SCF can jump back ahead with a win or draw today.

Cologne team news

For this must-win match, Timo Schultz makes just one switch, as Steffen Tigges makes way for Linton Maina. He will be hoping a settled team will help Effzeh clinch all three points.

Freiburg team news

Christian Streich has to make do without a number of important players, including Matthias Ginter and Kevin Sildillia. All in all, he makes two changes from the side that lost to Wolfsburg last time out, as Lukas Kübler and Lucas Höler come into the starting XI.

Probable line-ups

Who’s set to play this weekend? Who’s going to miss out? Keep up to date with all the latest team news right here!

Streich's view ahead of Cologne

"Cologne recognise they have a chance. Normally, they'd win against us now, and that's dangerous for us because they have a lot of energy. But on the other hand, Cologne are also under a lot of pressure. You have to realise that too. And we've discussed that and now we're travelling to Cologne and it's going to be very emotional, it's going to be very loud, but that's what we always want. It's nice."

Schultz's view ahead of Freiburg

"We want to show a different side to ourselves at home. We want to be bold and get forward at home. We need the three points. We don't have to beat about the bush, but for the three points we'll need a good performance first and foremost. We're absolutely convinced that we can put ourselves in a significantly better position this weekend and that has to be our goal. As I said, with a good performance. We can't influence anything else."

Cologne on the edge

Cologne will go down this weekend if they lose at home to Freiburg, and Mainz win at Heidenheim on Sunday, or if the Billy Goats draw, the 05ers win and Union Berlin draw with Bochum.

Watch: Freiburg 2-0 Cologne - previous meeting

Freiburg took advantage of Julian Chabot's sending off to take the spoils in the reverse fixture. It marked the club's 12th win over the Billy Goats under outgoing head coach Christian Streich, making them his joint-favourite opponent. He's also overseen 12 competitive wins against Augsburg.

Watch: Mainz 1-1 Cologne - highlights

Florian Kainz's late penalty rescued a crucial point for Cologne in their relegation six-pointer at Mainz. The result keeps them ticking for at least another week, but with their top-flight status hanging in the balance.

Watch: Freiburg 1-2 Wolfsburg - highlights

Freiburg let a 1-0 lead slip, had a man sent off and missed a last-gasp penalty in defeat to Wolfsburg. Christian Streich's team are still in seventh place, though, five points behind Frankfurt and one clear of the chasing pack in the race for European qualification.
