Full-time: Gladbach 2-0 Augsburg

Augsburg survived by the skin of their teeth after a 2-0 defeat at Gladbach on the final day that could have sent them into a play-off had Stuttgart won. Robert Gumny was sent off at the end of a difficult first-half for Augsburg in which they had already fallen two behind with Netz and Hofmann strikes. Augsburg raised little resistance but were ultimately relieved to have sealed their top-flight survival.

Coach’s view: Gladbach

Daniel Farke: "Given their situation in the table, Augsburg will do everything they can to pick up at least a point. We need to be prepared for that. We want to have a positive end to the season."

Coach’s view: Augsburg

Enrico Maaßen: "The necessary focus is there. We all know what it's about. We'll do everything we can to stay up in the league on our own. We played well in the last few away games, for example in Frankfurt and Wolfsburg. Those were games that we could have won. I'm convinced that if we show our best performance, then we'll win on Saturday."

Watch: Decision Day at Both Ends

The title, Europe, relegation – there’s still so much left to be decided at both ends of the table on the final day of the Bundesliga season.
camera-photo

Gladbach: personnel

Daniel Farke has confirmed that midfielders Manu Kone and Christoph Kramer will miss this final game. There's still a doubt about goalkeeper Jonas Omlin, who has missed the last two matches due to a muscle injury. Expect emotional scenes as two players feature in front of the Gladbach faithful for a final time - captain Lars Stindl and attacking talisman Marcus Thuram (pictured).

Gladbach: form

Gladbach have three defeats in their past five but have scored two in each of their past three Bundesliga games.

Augsburg: personnel

Mergim Berisha's (pictured) persistent ankle issue means he's a doubt once again for this final game. Iago and Ruben Vargas both returned to training following injury during the week, but only the latter could well be involved. It's also reportedly a race against time for Mads Pedersen because of a knee problem. Robert Gumny is at least available again following suspension, but Felix Uduokhai serves a ban for his red card against Dortmund.

Augsburg: form

A run of just one win in ten has denied Augsburg the chance to ensure their safety. They have not won away since a 3-2 victory at Schalke in October.

Gladbach: probable XI

Olschowsky - Lainer, Itakura, Elvedi, Bensebaini - Weigl, Neuhaus - Hofmann, Stindl (c), Plea - Thuram

Gladbach: out

Kone (muscular), Kramer (muscular), Sanches (ankle)

Augsburg: probable XI

Koubek - Gumny, Bauer, Gouweleeuw (c), Veiga - Maier, Engels, Rexhbecaj, Demirovic - Yeboah, Beljo

Augsburg: out

Baumgartlinger (knee), Gikiewicz (shoulder), Hahn (knee), Iago (muscular), Oxford (fitness), Strobl (cruciate ligament), Uduokhai (suspended)

Watch: Bayer Leverkusen 2-2 Gladbach

See how the Foals fought back from 2-0 down to secure a 2-2 draw thanks to a last-gasp Stindl strike.

Travel sick

Augsburg are without a win in their last 12 Bundesliga away games. All nine of their victories this season have been by a single-goal margin.

Advantage Gladbach?

The Foals are unbeaten in their last seven Bundesliga games at home against Augsburg, winning five and drawing two.

Watch: Augsburg 0-3 Borussia Dortmund

Enrico Maaßen's side held on as long as they could after Felix Uduokhai's sending off in the 38th minute, but three second-half goals from Dortmund condemned Augsburg to a 17th league defeat of the season.

Fond farewell

Stindl will play his final game for Gladbach here, having joined from Hannover in 2015. The 34-year-old has 62 Bundesliga goals for the club in 221 top-flight matches so far.

Home fortress

Gladbach may not have enjoyed their best season in 2022/23, but they still have the sixth-best record on home turf this term: 30 of their 40 points to date have been won at Borussia-Park.

Watch: Augsburg 1-0 Gladbach - previous meeting

Mergim Berisha struck an 82nd-minute winner to give Augsburg the points in a closely fought Matchday 17 encounter back in January.

Stindl the super sub

Gladbach veteran Lars Stindl has scored off the bench in each of the team's last three games. Indeed, of his eight Bundesliga goals this season, five have been as a substitute - a league-high figure he shares with Dortmund's Gio Reyna.

Not safe yet

Augsburg, with just one league win in their last 10 outings, would slip down to the relegation play-off spot in 16th if they lost and both VfB Stuttgart and Bochum win.
