HONOURS EVEN

Fürth were one mistake from doing the double over Union and claiming a positive from this season, but they do remain unbeaten against a European contender and take a small step closer to their goal of matching their 21 points from 2012/13. Union miss out on the chance of confirming their place in Europe next season.

DO UNION DESERVE TO BE AHEAD?

information
xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
The stats for xGoals would suggest so, but Michel's goal having a probability of 96% gives their total a huge boost.

Asta and Knoche both slide in for a ball and collide at pace and need treatment.

SUPER-SUB SVEN

Michel's third goal since joining Union in January. All have come from the bench. Only Nils Petersen and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting have got more by substitutes (four).

THERE IT IS!

They've confident playing out from the back all game but it's come back to bite Fürth now. Viergever dispossessed in his own box by substitute Michel, with Linde way off to the right offering an option. A simple tap-in for the Union man to bring his team level.

Fürth win the ball high up the pitch and Ngankam tries to pick out Hrgota with a lofted ball, but Ronnow is alert and off his line quickly to collect.

BY NO MEANS OVER

Fürth have already lost seven games this season in which they've taken the lead. Only Saarbrücken in 1963/64 have ever thrown away more leads to lose (nine). Greuther have also led at the break away from home three times this campaign. They lost all those (3-1 at Cologne, 4-1 in Leipzig and 4-1 at Bayern).

FISCHER RESPONDS

No doubt not impressed by that first half, Union boss Urs Fischer opts for a change and sends on striker Andreas Voglsammer. Becker will likely drop off Awoniyi a bit.

HALF-TIME

There are no doubt many people wondering where this Fürth were when it mattered this season. They've been very good here, restricting Union to pretty much nothing while striking themselves with a brilliant hit from Hrgota. But the Clover Leaves are yet to win on the road this season. In fact, they haven't done so on their travels in the Bundesliga since this matchday in 2012/13.

WHAT A HIT!

A Fürth free-kick into the box is headed clear but straight to the feet of Hrgota 12 yards out but way out to the right of goal. The skipper takes a touch to knock it onto his left foot and bends an unstoppable effort inside the far post. Lovely finish.

HANDBALL

Willems is penalised for handball to the side of the Fürth box. He also talks himself into a yellow card. It's the Dutchman's fifth caution of the season, so he'll miss the final home game against Dortmund next week.

Greuther have been much more solid at the back since Andreas Linde took over in goal at the start of the year, and he's shown real confidence to chip the ball over the onrushing Awoniyi as Fürth play out.

DOUBLE CHANCE!

Again a low cross from the right, again the men in green and black fluff their lines. This time Hrgota and Ngankam both miss the ball. Then Raschl strikes the underside of the crossbar from 20 yards before Ronnow snaffles up the loose ball. This is a positive start from the Clover Leaves.

WATCH: THE NUMBERS BEHIND 2,000 BUNDESLIGA MATCHDAYS

It's a historic weekend in the Bundesliga as the league plays its 2,000th round of fixtures. We've looked at some of the stats and facts behind nearly 18,000 games.

CONSTANT PROGRESSION

Union are about to contest the 100th Bundesliga match in their history, becoming the 43rd club to reach a century. They’ve got more wins (38) than defeats (34). The Irons finished their first season in 11th, came seventh last year and are currently sixth. It’s been constant progression under coach Urs Fischer, who brought them up in his first season in charge after taking over in 2018.

EUROPE BECKONS

Union have won all four of their league games in April, setting a new club record for consecutive Bundesliga wins. They’ve also equalled their record total of 50 points with three games to go. But there’s a far bigger carrot than that in front of them. Die Eisernen could in fact guarantee a place in Europe for the second year in a row if they win and Hoffenheim lose to Freiburg tomorrow. It would ensure they can’t finish below seventh, which will herald a UEFA Europa Conference League spot.

HISTORIC MEETING

The return fixture in Fürth saw the Clover Leaves get the first of those three wins. In fact, it was the first home in in their Bundesliga history. Havard Nielsen got the only goal of the game to etch his name into the history of the three-time German champions.

STILL TIME TO DO GOOD

Although Fürth’s relegation was confirmed last week, Leitl has said that the team still has some targets, such as improving on the 21 points that the class of 2012/13 got in the club’s only previous Bundesliga campaign. They’ve got three games to get the four points needed to equal that. The Clover Leaves ended 2012/13 with four wins and 26 goals, with the last victory coming the game after relegation, away at Stuttgart – their last away win in the top flight. The current crop have three wins and 25 goals…

FÜRTH TEAM NEWS

Stefan Leitl, who confirmed this week that he will leave the club at the end of the season, also makes just one change from the defeat to Leverkusen, which confirmed Greuther’s relegation. That sees Jamie Leweling return and replace Julian Green.

UNION TEAM NEWS

Urs Fischer makes just one change for his and Union’s 100th Bundesliga games from the side that came from behind to win late on at Leipzig last week. It’s an enforced one, with Andras Schäfer unavailable and replaced by Genki Haraguchi. There’s no place for the two goalscorers at the Red Bull Arena, Kevin Behrens and Sven Michel. They both start on the bench again.
