Goals: 0-1 Silva 19' (assist: Henrichs), 1-1 Caligiuri 86' (pen.)

Seeking to inspire his players to a first away win of the campaign, new Leipzig coach Domenico Tedesco couldn't have been more impressed by Die Roten Bullen's opening to this Matchday 16 encounter at the WWK Arena. Making his tenth start of the season, Emil Forsberg tricked his way into the Augsburg area before flashing a shot narrowly wide of the far post after just five minutes. The visitors came again soon afterwards, Silva profiting from some fine Christopher Nkunku work on the counter-attack but ultimately taking too long to dispatch his shot at goal. Going into this game having netted in his previous two Leipzig appearances (Bundesliga and Champions League), Silva made amends for that earlier miss and brought his tally up to three goals in three games after controlling Benjamin Henrichs's smart centre and prodding in from close range.

Augsburg stunned Bayern Munich in a recent run of three wins in six games and Markus Weinzierl's men raised their efforts as they looked to match that standard after the restart. Hoping to mark his 60th appearance for the Bavarians with a goal, Reece Oxford rose highest to meet a corner that flew wide of the upright. Michael Gregoritsch then just failed to connect with a Fredrik Jensen cross that would have almost certainly resulted in a goal had the Austrian been a touch sharper. Leipzig briefly threatened at the other end, where Forsberg had a goal ruled out for offside before Nordi Mukiele headed against a post. Yet momentum was now with the hosts who sensed something when Sergio Cordova's looping header hit the bar. Sure enough, Henrichs's handball in the box resulted in a penalty for Die Fuggerstädter, who were celebrating a deserved point after Caligiuri lashed home from the spot.
