AUGSBURG ON THE UP

Weinzierl's charges are heading for only their second Bundesliga win of the season. They're moving level on points with 15th-placed Frankfurt, but will remain outside the safe house on goal difference.
82'

FINNBOGASON SEALS IT!

Alfred Finnbogason scores his first Bundesliga goal since February 2020! It's a solid strike from the Augsburg forward - low and hard under Bredlow from the edge of the area. Game, set and match!

AUGSBURG EFFICIENCY

Less of the ball, but more chances and goals - Augsburg well and truly weathered that early storm.

IMMEDIATE IMPACT!

Augsburg score for the third time, having been 1-0 down! It's a familiar story as Stuttgart don't deal with a corner into the danger zone. Finnbogason feeds it back into the six-yard area for Niederlechner, who fires high into the net on the turn. Superb finish. Stuttgart are falling apart.
70'

LIKE-FOR-LIKE CHANGES

The two-goal Niederlechner and Euro U21 winner Dorsch replace Vargas and Maier respectively. It's a pretty deep squad Weinzierl has at his disposal - that could be key in the relegation battle.
67'

MATARAZZO ROLLS THE DICE

Changes at both ends for Stuttgart, with rangy defender Pascal Stenzel and forward Wahid Faghir on. Can they wrestle back the initiative?
64'

FINN-NO!

Augsburg break with Hahn. He carries the ball a long way before laying if off for Vargas to his left in the box. The Switzerland international squares for Finnbogason, whose goal-bound strike is deflected behind off the toe of Mola. The home side are unrecognisable for the team that started this contest.
61'

DOUBLE CHANGE

Caligiuri's worked his socks off for Augsburg, and the home fans know it. Andre Hahn's on for the veteran, while Tobias Strobl brings fresh legs to the centre of the park at the expense of ex-Stuttgart man Carlos Gruezo.
57'

MANGALA!

Stuttgart work the ball into the Augsburg area. Mangala goes on the outside of his marker, but the angle's tight and Gikiewicz is able to make the stop.
54'

AUGSBURG LEAD!

Stuttgart come unstuck from another corner as Jeffrey Gouweleeuw meets Vargas' cross into the six-yard box with his head. Bredlow flaps at air and there's an attempt at a goal-line clearance, but it's all in vain. A truly awful goal to concede from a defensive point of view.
50'

BREDLOW AND BUTTER

Augsburg are pressing Stuttgart higher and have all the momentum as Caligiuri launches a speculative long-range effort straight at Bredlow. Too passive from Stuttgart...
46'

HERE WE GO AGAIN!

Augsburg are unchanged at the start of the second half, but Matarazzo has shuffled his pack. Philipp Förster is on to beef up the midfield, with the more attack-minded Daniel Didavi making way.

HALF-TIME: AUGSBURG 1-1 STUTTGART

Augsburg are deservedly level at the break, after VfB looked like they might run away with it. All to play for!

AUGSBURG DANGER

Ausgburg break as Finnbogason finds Vargas in the VfB area. He can't get a shot away, but manages to ping a low ball into the six-yard box. Mola forces it behind for a corner that comes to nothing. Augsburg looking the more likely...
41'

OXFORD AGAIN!

Stuttgart are not dealing well with Augsburg's set-piece deliveries. Oxford meets a free-kick under pressure from Mola, but misses the target. The Englishman might have had a second there!
40'

KEMPF CROCKED

Stuttgart's injury woes continue as defender Marc-Oliver Kempf is forced off. England U21 Clinton Mola is his replacement, making his second Bundesliga appearance.

STUTTGART PRESSURE

Stuttgart threaten an immediate response as Finnbogason gets in the way of Endo's goal-bound header. Anton keeps the ensuing corner alive with a fabulous turn and near-post cross - so good that Didavi doesn't quite expect to receive the ball. He prods wide under pressure from an Augsburg defender.
31'

OXFORD LEVELS!

Well, well. Stuttgart are undone by a ball up the middle. Finnbogason fires straight at Bredlow, who parries behind for a corner. Arne Maier whips it in, and Oxford rises highest to head home his third goal of the season.

BREDLOW CALLED INTO ACTION

Daniel Caligiuri curls a teasing ball into the Stuttgart area. It's crying out for a touch, but sails all the way through and Bredlow has to turn it away with his left foot. Very awkward one for the keeper.
25'

VARGAS!

Ruben Vargas lifts spirits inside the WWK-Arena as he cuts in off the left and fires narrowly wide of the far post. That wasn't far away at all!
23'

STUTTGART CHANGE

Führich can't continue, so on comes 20-year-old Frenchman Tanguy Coulibaly for his seventh league appearance of the season.
21'

BLOCKED

Klimowicz is on the prowl. He drives into the Augsburg area, before seeing his attempt at goal blocked. Gouweleeuw then goes into the book for a rash lunge on Didavi.
19'

FÜHRICH CONCERN

Goalscorer Führich is down clutching his right ankle. The physios are on as Matarazzo looks on pensively. The American's squad has been ravaged by injury this season...
15'

ZEQIRI, ZEQIRI

Better from Augsburg as Caligiuri whips a ball into the feet of Zeqiri in the box. He takes it on first time, but his shot is blocked behind for a corner. It's half dealt with initially, before Anton clears.
10'

WARNING SHOT

Sosa has a pop for Stuttgart. It doesn't trouble Gikiewicz, but these are worrying times for Augsburg. It's all Stuttgart!
8'

STUTTGART LEAD!

Stuttgart take full advantage of a very shaky Augsburg start. Endo works the ball to Führich, who takes aim from 18 yards and fires in his first Bundesliga goal since joining VfB from Paderborn in the summer.

EYES ON WEINZIERL

Augsburg have taken just nine points from 12 Bundesliga matches since Markus Weinzierl returned as coach in May (W2, D3, L6). He oversaw 23 games in charge of Stuttgart in 2018/19, losing his job following a 6-0 defeat in Augsburg.

THE FINNBO FACTOR

Augsburg have registered fewer shots this season (79) than any other team in the Bundesliga. Only five of those efforts have found the net, making FCA the lowest scorers in the division. Can Alfred Finnbogason rediscover the kind of form that helped him produce double figures for goals in 2017/18 and 2018/19? The injury ravaged Iceland international makes only his Bundesliga fifth start in the last 12 months today...

WATCH: MAINZ 4-1 AUGSBURG

Augsburg are winless in an unwanted club record 11 away Bundesliga games following their loss at Mainz. They've picked up four of their six points so far this term on home soil, and currently occupy the relegation play-off spot, with three points to make up on outright safety.

WATCH: STUTTGART 1-1 UNION

Wahid Faghir scored with the last kick of the game to salvage a point for Stuttgart, who played the majority of the second half against Union Berlin with 10 men following Atakan Karazor's sending off. It was VfB's fourth draw of the campaign.

MORE ON THOSE TEAMS

Augsburg coach Markus Weinzierl makes four changes to the side that lost 4-1 at Mainz last Friday. Tobias Strobl and Mads Pedersen come into the midfield, while Andi Zeqiri and Alfred Finnbogason lead the line. As for Stuttgart, Wahid Faghir starts on the bench once again, despite rescuing his side a point against Union Berlin on Matchday 9. Defender Konstantinos Mavropanos misses out through injury, with Waldemar Anton coming in. Midfielder Orel Mangala and forward Mateo Klimowicz also get the nod following the midweek exertions of a DFB Cup second-round loss to Cologne.

MATARAZZO SENSES OPPORTUNITY

"We’re expecting our opponents to play with a lot of energy, but we’re still focusing on ourselves and our own game," Pellegrino Matarazzo said ahead of the meeting between his 13th-placed VfB and 16th-in-the-table Augsburg. "We have to be up for the fight in order to decide the match in our favour. Our focus is on our own performance and on influencing the game in the right direction. We need to gather and focus our energy. We sense an opportunity to get three points and want to take it."
