Bundesliga 2, Matchday 4: Hertha Berlin march on as three other sides remain unbeaten
Hertha Berlin made it four wins out of four, with Nuremberg leading the chase as another of four unbeaten sides. Elsewhere, St. Pauli remain winless for a fourth straight Bundesliga 2 game.
Hertha Berlin 2-1 Magdeburg

Hertha saw out a narrow lead at home to Magdeburg on Matchday 4 to continue their perfect start to the campaign with four successive wins. Talisman and captain Josip Brekalo opened the scoring with a lovely, composed finish, before Falko Michel levelled for the visitors after half an hour with a bullet header. Oluwaseun Adewumi then restored the Old Lady’s advantage minutes after coming on as a half-time substitute. Despite a disallowed equaliser from Magdeburg’s Moritz-Broni Kwarteng and a red card for both sides, Hertha managed to weather late pressure from the visitors to secure the three points and claim top spot.
Wolfsburg 4-4 Energie Cottbus

Wolfsburg’s unbeaten record in Bundesliga 2 remains intact after an eight-goal thriller against promoted Cottbus. A Robert Glatzel brace and Vinicius Souza strike established an early three-goal lead for the Wolves, but Luca Erlein managed to reduce arrears just before the break. Half-time substitute King Manu then brought Energie back within touching distance, before Tolcay Ciğerci equalised from the spot. Minutes later, however, and Wolfsburg were back in front courtesy of Mathias Svanberg, who came off the bench to put the hosts back in front. However, Mathys Angély, who had teed up Svanberg, was dismissed for a challenge on Dmytro Bogdanov, who went on to level the scores for Cottbus in stoppage time.
Holstein Kiel 2-2 Nuremberg
Goals: 0-1 Markhiyev 41’, 1-1 Harres 45’+1, 2-1 Kaprálik 50’, 2-2 Scobel 56’
Nuremberg dropped points for the first time this season after being held by Kiel. Adam Markhiyev gave Miroslav Klose’s side the lead with his third goal of the campaign, but Phil Harres’ header late in the first half and a low drive from the impressive Adrián Kaprálik put Kiel in the driving seat early in the second period. However, Piet Scobel preserved the visitors’ unbeaten record in 2026/27 with a smart finish from Markhiyev’s assist.
Kaiserslautern 3-0 Darmstadt

Kaiserslautern remain unbeaten in Bundesliga 2 this term after deservedly beating Darmstadt. Lance Duijvestijn spurned a golden opportunity to give the Lilies a first-half lead, rifling his penalty against the crossbar following Fabian Kunze’s foul on Noah Weißhaupt. Mário Sauer capitalised two minutes before the break when he slid home Semih Şahin’s cross to put Lautern ahead, before Thierry Tazemeta doubled their advantage with a deflected close-range strike. Yannik Lührs then put through his own net with virtually the last kick of the game to put the seal on a comfortable Lautern win.
Osnabrück 3-1 Eintracht Braunschweig
Goals: 1-0 Kofi Kyereh (52'), 2-0 Jacobsen (76'), 3-0 Meißner (80'), 3-1 Sturm 88'
There was no rollercoaster in Osnabrück today, but the hosts did race to a comfortable win with an entertaining second half. Braunschweig dominated the first period, but things soon changed as Kyereh scored shortly after coming on as a substitute to put the hosts in front. Jacobsen headed home from a corner before Meißner sealed the deal with a third before the Lions pulled a late goal back.
Dynamo Dresden 1-2 Bochum
Goals: 0-1 Miyoshi 4’, 0-2 Miyoshi 25’, 1-2 Bobzien 41’
Bochum returned to winning ways with a narrow 2-1 victory against Dresden, who suffered back-to-back defeats. Uwe Rösler’s side raced out of the blocks and took a deserved 2-0 lead through Kōji Miyoshi’s brace, but Ben Bobzien halved the deficit with a composed finish just before the break. Dresden’s Tobias Raschl struck the post in the second period, but Bochum held on to secure successive away wins.
Hannover 2-2 Karlsruhe
Goals: 1-0 Gindorf 26’, 1-1 Fukuda 28’, 2-1 Hartel 38’, 2-2 Pinto Pedrosa 85’
Hannover were denied a second league win of the season by Rafael Pinto Pedrosa’s late effort at the Heinz von Heiden Arena. Lars Gindorf’s close-range finish midway through the first half was quickly cancelled out by Shio Fukuda, who capitalised on an error from Boris Tomiak to fire Karlsruhe level. Former St. Louis City midfielder Marcel Hartel appeared to have earned the hosts all three points with a smart finish from Kolja Oudenne’s low cross, but Pinto Pedrosa rifled home with five minutes remaining to restore parity.
Arminia Bielefeld 2-2 St. Pauli
Goals: 1-0 Rochelt 13’, 1-1 Hara 20’, 2-1 Grodowski 51’, 2-2 Ceesay 65’
St. Pauli remain without a win this season after being held by Bielefeld. The visitors fell behind when Jonas Kersken’s goal-kick sailed all the way through to Jannik Rochelt, who finished with aplomb to break the deadlock. Taichi Hara’s smart finish restored parity before the break, only for Joel Grodowski to fire Arminia back in front with a deflected effort from the edge of the box. The hosts were pegged back again when Abdoulie Ceesay converted Arkadiusz Pyrka’s cross, but neither side could find a winner.
Greuther Fürth 0-1 Heidenheim
Goal: 0-1 Zivzivadze (12')
Heidenheim went up to third with an away win. The hosts dominated before a fine header from Zivzivadze opened the scoring. Fürth had the chance to equalise just over half an hour in through Itter, but he met his match in Dähne. In the second half, the hosts continued to struggle and rarely threatened going forward, as Heidenheim comfortably saw out the narrow lead.
