Racist incident at Dynamo Dresden vs. Fortuna Düsseldorf
The Bundesliga 2 fixture between Dynamo Dresden and Fortuna Düsseldorf was overshadowed by a racist incident towards a Fortuna player. Both clubs have strongly condemned the incident.
A statement on the Fortuna Düsseldorf website said: "Towards the end of the match, one of our players was clearly subjected to racist abuse by a person in the stands. This incident deeply affected our team and all those involved. The match officials immediately recorded the incident and documented it in the official match report.
"Fortuna Düsseldorf and Dynamo Dresden condemn this racist attack in the strongest possible terms. Both clubs stand united in their commitment to ensuring that discrimination – in any form – has no place in football."
Dynamo coach Thomas Stamm said: "Our joy at winning [2-1] is tarnished by the incident of a Düsseldorf player being racially abused. It makes me speechless, and I would like to ask these people not to come to our games, as football does not need it."
