Eintracht Braunschweig hammer Magdeburg to enter Bundesliga 2 record books
Eintracht Braunschweig's thumping 6-1 win at Magdeburg on Saturday not only helped them start the new season in style, they also etched their name in the Bundesliga 2 record books in the process.
Having narrowly avoided relegation last term, Braunschweig began 2026/27 eager to avoid a repeat showing.
The Lions sent out quite a statement of their intent, brushing aside Magdeburg 6-1 to claim all three points - and a place in the Bundesliga annals.

The win means Lars Kornetka's side are now in third place in the division's highest margins of victory on the opening weekend of a new season. Indeed, their scoreline is only beaten by Mannheim’s 6-0 triumph over Würzburger FV in 1977.
“We got into a flow and were able to ruthlessly exploit the opponent’s lack of concentration,” said Kornetka afterwards.
It was a sentiment that was echoed by Braunschweig’s goalkeeper, Ron-Thorben Hoffmann: “We showed the hunger and drive we want to embody today. To end up with six goals is, of course, incredible.”
