Full-time: Bielefeld 6-1 Hertha

Arminia Bielfeld celebrate their Bundesliga 2 survival. Thanks to an outstanding second half, they beat Hertha and can now celebrate. After the break, they were significantly more clinical and scored six goals. Grodowski in particular was ice-cold in front of goal.

Big performance

On course for the 200th home win

Bielefeld are on the verge of survival and also close to their 200th home win in Bundesliga 2. Their first came in 1974 against Preußen Münster (3-2).

The decisive moment!

Sicker delivers a corner to Großer, who wins the header and forces Ernst into another excellent save. But then Russo reacts quickest and pushes the ball over the line.

Relief

The home side have turned things around and are on course for another year in Bundesliga 2.

Is that safety?

Bielefeld continue to push forward and score what could be the decisive goal. Bielefeld win the ball at the halfway line. Grodowski then plays it to Corboz, who squares it across the face of goal. Momuluh only has to tap it in. Survival is within reach.

Berner plays a great cross to Eitschberger, who forces Kersken into a brilliant save from close range.

The deserved equaliser

A 1-1 scoreline feels fair. It also moves Arminia up to 14th place, as Braunschweig are behind.

No cause for concern

Half-time: Bielefeld 0-1 Hertha

Arminia find themselves in an automatic relegation spot after the first half. The reason for this is a good Hertha goalkeeper, who's thwarted numerous Bielefeld chances. At the other end, Arminia defended catastrophically on one occasion and find themselves behind and in trouble.

One minute of added time

Can Bielefeld find a way back in before the break?
43'

Arminia go again

Momuluh drives up the right and delivers a dangerous cross in front of goal. Once again the Berlin goalkeeper is on hand to make the save.
41'

Offside

Once again a Bielefeld player finds himself one-on-one with Ernst. And once again Ernst makes a strong save. This time, however, the striker was offside when played in.
39'

Grodowski misses out

Bielefeld keep pushing and come down the right. However, the cross hits Grodowski in the back.
38'

A huge blow

As Fürth are currently leading 3-0, Bielefeld are now down to 17th place and Düsseldorf in 16th.
camera-photo

Hertha lead!

Bielefeld can only partially clear a free-kick. Eitschberger then has far too much space and crosses to Gechter, who is also unmarked. The defender can head in without any trouble.

Huge save!

Corboz sets up Wörl perfectly, who finds himself one-on-one with Ernst and aims for the near post. The goalkeeper, however, makes himself incredibly big and repels the ball with his foot.
31'

Good intervention

Ernst punches away a cross from Lannert. Corboz would have been ready to shoot.
30'

Two chances

First, Großer attempts an overhead kick. He doesn't connect with the ball properly, and it falls to Momuluh, who fires over the crossbar.
28'

Comes to nothing

Momuluh drives forward and then looks for Grodowski in the penalty area. The Berlin side are alert to clear, however.
25'

Dangerous

Reese crosses into the six-yard box. Gechter gets on the end of it and heads the ball just over the bar.
24'

No threat

A Berlin corner is cleared by Bielefeld without any problems.
22'

Foul

The following corner is dangerous as well. Bauer flicks it on to the far post. There, Corboz can only make his way through by fouling and is penalised.
0:18
camera-professional-play-symbol

Almost

Arminia find their way forward once again. Schreck plays it across to Lannert, who lets fly from just under 30 metres out. Ernst has to stretch well and deflects it out for a corner.
17'

Fürth extend their lead

It is now 2-0 to Fürth against Düsseldorf. More good news for Arminia.
15'

The crowd ramp it up

Every time Bielefeld win the ball or put in a good move, the Alm erupts. The fans are supporting their side as best they can.
10'

Bielefeld up for it

The hosts are desperate to take the lead here and not have to worry about the play-offs. A draw would certainly suffice for that, as Düsseldorf and Fürth are still below them.
9'

Bielefeld again

Grodowski crosses into the centre, where Corboz forces his way through. His header bounces up off the ground and over the bar.
7'

Deflected

Hertha cannot clear the ball. Corboz lays it off to Russo. However, his shot is deflected just over the bar.
5'

First shot on goal

Wörl has a go from just over 20 metres out. Ernst is well positioned, though, and catches the ball safely.
3'

Good news

Fürth have scored early to lead against Düsseldorf. As a result, Bielefeld - due to the better goal difference - are up to 15th place and would thereby secure their Bundesliga 2 survival.
2'

Almost the lead

Eitschberger crosses to the far post. Berne is unmarked there. The full-back seems somewhat surprised, though, and his finish lacks precision.
1'

Kick-off

Arminia get the match under way.
Kick-off!

The state of play

A win guarantees Arminia at least a play-off spot. On top of that, they could still overtake Düsseldorf, Braunschweig, Dresden and Magdeburg.

Fire up the calculators

There is a lot at stake for Bielefeld today. They can still be directly relegated, go into the play-off or secure their survival. To do so, they ideally need to win their own match whilst simultaneously hoping for up to four other results to go their way.
camera-photo

Bielefeld team news

Arminia begin their must-win match with a starting XI changed in five positions - the most Bielefeld have made in a single match this season! Hagmann, Knoche, Handwerker (pictured), Rochelt and Uldrikis all drop to the bench, while Großer, Sicker, Lannert, Schreck and Grodowski come into the side.

Starting XI debut for Berner

Karbownik's absence gives Berner the chance for his first appearance from the start. The 21-year-old left-back has so far only played 20 minutes for the first team, 12 in the league and eight in the cup.

Klemens plays

Klemens is in the Hertha starting line-up for the first time since February. The academy product had temporarily been left out due to his uncertain contract situation, and made his first substitute appearance last week since signing his contract extension.
camera-photo

Grönning leads the attack

With Kownacki unavailable and Schuler also ruled out, and Winkler – who had recently been filling in centrally – suspended, Grönning gets his chance up front. The Dane had made only three starting appearances in the league this season, the last of which came in October 2025.
camera-photo

Hertha team news

The Berliners have arrived with a severely depleted squad. In addition to the players previously missing, they are also without the suspended Brekalo (red card) and Winkler (fifth yellow card), while Karbownik (pictured) is also ruled out. This opens the door for young talent, with 17-year-old Niklas Hildebrand (previously only in the professional squad on Matchday 34 of last season) and 20-year-old Soufian Gouram (called up for the very first time) both named on the bench.

Mitch Kniat on facing Hertha

"The pressure has been on us throughout the campaign, but we now have a final to play. We need to keep our nerves under control. We try to give our all every day and have never deviated from that approach. We need to show from the get-go that our fans can count on us."
camera-photo

Stefan Leitl on facing Bielefeld

"The atmosphere in the stadium is going to be very emotional and intense. Bielefeld desperately need the points to stay in the division. For us it, it's about playing with the right attitude and holding our own. We want to win the game and finish the season as well as we possibly can."

Knoche and Hertha

Robin Knoche (2nd l.) is yet to win against Hertha in Bundesliga 2 (D1, L1 with Nuremberg), but has four wins in his last four Bundesliga matches against the Old Lady and was among the scorers in Union's 3-1 derby win against Hertha in August 2022.
camera-photo

Last away win in the cup

Bielefeld last beat the Berliners in January 2021 (1-0 at home in the Bundesliga, goal by Reinhold Yabo). Hertha's last away win at Arminia was a 2-0 in the DFB Cup in 2015, with the last league victory at the Alm coming over 15 years ago when brothers Raffael (r.) and Ronny (2nd r.) netted in a 3-1 win in Bundesliga 2 in January 2011.

Arminia leave it late

Hertha were leading 1-0 until deep into stoppage time on their last visit to Bielefeld in April 2022 in the Bundesliga, only for Arminia's Joakim Nilsson to equalise in the 91st minute.
