Full-time: Nuremberg 3-0 Schalke

And that's it! Schalke came out of the dressing room well in the second half and engaged the hosts in an end-to-end battle in the first 15 minutes of the second half, during which both teams squandered clear-cut chances. Nuremberg settled the game down after the hour mark and put the lid on it with Zoma's 3-0 a quarter of an hour before the final whistle. Schalke continued to have good chances but simply could not find the net. Nuremberg jump to eighth place with the win, while Schalke of course remain the runaway leaders at the top of the table.

Off the post again!

The ball just will not go in from Schalke's perspective. Following a corner kick, Sanchez gets a shot off whilst lying on the ground, but his effort from eight yards crashes against the left post.

Alì Zoma gets his goal! 3-0!

This time the flag stays down! Zoma makes his run at exactly the right moment, is played through by Becker, brings the ball under control with great technique, and shoots from the edge of the box, finding the back of the net via the inside of the left post to make it 3-0.

53'

Had to score!

Up the other end, Schalke almost pull one back. Schalke break through on the left, but El Faouzi's shot from eight yards is blocked on the line by Lochoshvili, and incredibly, Karaman manages to fire the rebound from inside the six-yard box over the bar.
47'

Half-time: Nuremberg 2-0 Schalke

Miroslav Klose's side head in at the break with a deserved lead against the champions thanks to an early own-goal from Schallenberg and a late strike from Koudossou. In fact, the Bavarian outfit put the ball in the back of the Royal Blues' goal four times in the first half, but two strikes by Mohamed Alì Zoma were chalked off for offside. Schalke have lacked an offensive threat, going closest through Aouchiche immediately after falling behind, but otherwise have been largely passive in attacking areas.

Koudossou doubles Nuremberg's lead!

On the third time of asking, Nuremberg extend their lead to 2-0 before the break! Koudoussou has too much space on the right after a chip ball from Gruber over the backline and finishes from a tight angle into the near post. Müller had anticipated the cut-back and left the near post exposed.

The ball is in the Schalke net, but the goal does not stand. Zoma is sent through on a diagonal run into the penalty area from the left half-space and keeps his cool in front of Müller. However, after VAR review, it transpires the striker was half a yard offside, and the goal is correctly scrubbed off.

Lubach's memorable debut

Schalke have won six of the seven second division encounters against Nuremberg. The latter's sole victory against the Royal Blues in Bundesliga 2 came at home back in August 2024, when Rafael Lubach (pictured) made his professional debut and scored 51 seconds after coming on as a substitute to make it 3-1. Undefeated in goal

Kevin Müller is yet to taste defeat in a game he has played this season. In his three prior appearances this term - all between Matchdays 24 and 26 - Schalke claimed two wins and a draw.

More on that Nuremberg side

Like Schalke, the hosts also start today with their backup goalkeeper. Christian Mathenia makes his first appearance in nine months, having only played this season in the first-round exit in the DFB-Pokal against Illertissen. Top scorer Mohamed Ali Zoma (pictured) is also back in the starting line-up after missing the last two games through injury, replacing Adriano Grimaldi. Additionally, 18-year-old Kristian Mandic is included in a senior matchday squad for the very first time.

More on that Schalke side

Alongside first-choice goalkeeper Karius, who is absent due to the birth of his second son, Kuruçay is also absent with an ankle issue. Moussa Ndiaye also drops to the bench. Müller dons the gloves in Karius' stead and of the usual starting back four, only Timo Becker features today. Sanchez comes in for Kuruçay, making his first start since Matchday 29 in Elversberg, and Vitalie Becker gets the nod on the left. The scorer of the winning goal in the reverse fixture starts for the first time since January, having been out for an extended period through injury.
