All Regensburg players have positioned themselves in and around the penalty area, making space extremely tight.

Ganaus equalises

That is his fifth goal of the season, meaning he is Regensburg's top scorer.
76'

The equaliser!

Unbelievable - Regensburg are back on level terms! The visitors play quickly down the left after a free-kick in midfield before crossing towards the six-yard box. Ganaus heads it, and Schwäbe saves. But the ball bounces off Heintz's knee and back to the feet of Ganaus, who pokes it over the line from very close range.

Over

Cologne have a free-kick from 25 yards out directly in front of the goal after a handball. But Luca Waldschmidt blasts the ball straight into the wall. His follow-up shot is hammered just over the crossbar.

Two Cologne players in double figures

Cologne and Regensburg go into the dressing room goalless. The home side are making an effort, but more often than not the decisive pass doesn't connect. Nevertheless, Effzeh have had a few decent chances. Regensburg, however, are holding their own and occasionally get forward. Schwäbe has had to make two important saves already.

Maina back in the squad

After suffering an ankle injury at the beginning of March on Matchday 24 in Karlsruhe, Linton Maina is back in the squad for the first time.

Mathematically still in it - just

After Münster's sensational 5-0 victory yesterday in Magdeburg, Regensburg are nine points and 41 goals away from 16th place Theoretically that can still be achieved in three matches, but is very unlikely realistically.

Jahn bring in Ananou, Hottmann

For Regensburg, there are two changes compared to the 1-1 draw against Braunschweig last week: Frederic Ananou has recovered and plays for Kai Pröger, while Eric Hottmann comes in for Sargis Adamyan.

Finnkgräfe replaces Paqarada

Only change for Cologne compared to the 0-1 in Hannover: Max Finkgräfe comes in for Paqarada. In his last three starts, Finkgräfe has helped his side to victory.

Regensburg's starting XI

Pollersbeck - Wurm, Ballas, Ziegele - Ananou, Kühlwetter, Handwerker - Ernst, Hein - Ganaus, Hottmann

Cologne's starting XI

Schwäbe - Thielmann, Hübers, Heintz, Finkgräfe - Martel - Ljubicic, Waldschmidt, Kainz - Lemperle, Downs

Andreas Patz's thoughts on facing Cologne

"We're expecting a team with strong technical ability and a lot of individual quality. In the reverse fixture, we showed that we're certainly capable of keeping them in check and standing our ground. Nobody expects anything from us, and that might actually work to our advantage."

Gerhard Struber's thought on facing Regensburg

"Regensburg always give their all, but tomorrow we want to show our true face – at home at 8:30 pm with our fans behind us – that does justice to us and our supporters. We want to make amends."

Brilliant against the parent club

In that 5-3 victory, Sargis Adamyan scored twice for Jahn, and in total he has scored four goals in four competitive matches against Cologne (three for Regensburg, one for Hoffenheim) – the same number as in 60 competitive matches for Cologne! Adamyan is currently on loan from the hosts to Jahn.

Good memories of the last time

Regensburg won 5-3 in their last away match in Cologne (12 May 2019) – but it's worth noting that Cologne had celebrated their early promotion to the Bundesliga a week before that match.

Cup shocker Regensburg

In three of the last four competitive matches, Jahn ended up winning! Regensburg won twice at home in the DFB-Cup after penalty shootouts (July 2022 first round, February 2021 round of 16 - each time as a Bundesliga 2 side against a Bundesliga Cologne, both matches ended 2-2 after 120 minutes).

One-sided record

In the first leg, Dejan Ljubicic failed to convert a penalty against Felix Gebhardt, but thanks to a goal from Tim Lemperle, Cologne won 1-0 and celebrated their fourth win from five league matches against Regensburg.
