Full-time: Magdeburg 3-0 Regensburg

A more than deserved success for Magdeburg, who were superior in all aspects today. The hosts' Nollenberger and Burcu were uncontrollable on the left flank, while Regensburg lacked precision and determination in attack. For the division's bottom club, things are looking increasingly bleak in the battle to beat the drop.

Three minutes added

Will anything happen in the next 180 seconds? Regensburg aren't giving the impression they can reduce the deficit.

"Berlin, Berlin, we're going to Berlin!"

That's what the Magdeburg fans are singing. But they're not heading to the cup final, which is usually celebrated with this chant - rather, they're travelling to Hertha for a league match next week.

Musonda knocked over

Ernst arrives late in midfield against the fresh Musonda and is punished with a yellow card for his foul.
84'

Loud applause

Nollenberger is being celebrated for his performance today. He thanks the fans and high-fives Musonda, who is now coming on as a substitute.
81'

Very confident performance

Regensburg can barely get into any dangerous areas. Magdeburg are controlling the match, skilfully moving the ball and making their opponents chase.

Goalscorer Hercher

That was the substitute's seventh goal of the season - a personal best for Hercher in Bundesliga 2.
72'

Another substitute strikes!

Just substituted on – and already celebrating! Nollenberger breaks free on the left, and while falling in the left side of the penalty area, he delivers the ball to Hercher, who carves out some space and shoots with his left foot. The deflected shot flies into the net from 11 metres out.

Another substitution

Amaechi, who has been hard-working but a bit unlucky today, makes way for Hercher. It's the second change for Magdeburg.

Struggling to make an impact

Regensburg continue to press high up the pitch, but Magdeburg remain very confident and strong in possession, rarely losing the ball.

The 1-0

It was a tap-in for Kaars.

Magdeburg continue to dictate play

Jahn has set up more offensivelyin this half, but Magdeburg are still seetting the tone. Burcu simply cannot be contained by the Regensburg players, repeatedly breaking through on the left flank.
59'

Triple substitution

Regensburg are now focusing on attack, bringing on players with an eye for goal.

Five and counting

That was Nollenberger's fifth assist of the season - not bad for a player who has gone from super sub to first-team regular this season.
54'

El-Zein, the super sub

That was just his second goal in 33 Bundesliga 2 outings. His first came in the home win over Darmstadt on Matchday 24.
51'

The super sub strikes!

Magdeburg attack down the left flank again. Nollenberger powers through near the corner flag, picks up pace and drives into the penalty area. He lays the ball back to the unmarked El-Zein, who fires into the bottom right corner from about twelve metres, making it 2-0.

Important

Handwerker delivers a cross from the left into the Magdeburg penalty area. Müller plays it safe and heads the ball out for a corner. Behind him, Adamyan was rushing in and would have been ready to score.
41'

Confident performance

Magdeburg are playing very confidently now that they have taken the lead. Regensburg can hardly get into Magdeburg's defensive third, while the home side occasionally combines nicely going forward.
38'

Even stevens

Both teams have seven shots each. Regensburg's efforts haven't really posed any danger yet, whereas Magdeburg have more momentum in their offensive play.

The lead!

This time the cross was right on the money! The busy Burcu accelerates on the left, gets behind the defensive line and delivers a low cross to the far post. Kaars is completely unmarked there and slots it in from close range to make it 1-0.

Too imprecise

Magdeburg are counter-attacking in their own stadium! Kaars sends Texeira on a run down the left, and he delivers a low cross into the penalty area. Ballas clears; the cross lacked precision here.

Hugonet!

Nollenberger crosses from the left into the penalty area, where Pollersbeck misses the ball. Ziegele heads it away, and Hugonet rushes in from the edge of the box, unleashing a volley from 18 metres. The shot whistles past the left corner of the crossbar.
24'

Burcu again and again

The left winger is spending plenty of time in the middle of the park. Burcu is constantly driving FCM's play, involved in almost all attacks in some way.
20'

Nollenberger!

Kieffer cannot control or clear a high ball and so it flies through to Nollenberger on the left side of the penalty area. He takes the ball, sets it up on his right foot and gets a shot away from 11 metres out. However, Pollersbeck easily snaffles up the poorly placed shot.
15'

Burcu breaks through

The winger has plenty of space ahead of him on the left and penetrates into the penalty area. From the byline, he delivers a sharp, low cross into the six-yard box, where Ballas is once again on hand to clear. Kaars was lurking behind the Regensburg defender.
15'

Magdeburg advantages

The hosts have slightly more possession, but Regensburg are barely allowing them into the dangerous areas. Moreover, the visitors are proving dangerous on the counter.

Almost an own-goal!

Kieffer wins the ball on the right and crosses into the penalty area. The ball flies over Ganaus, and behind him, Mathisen nearly heads it into his own net. The header goes narrowly wide to the right.

Good attack

Nollenberger is sent deep down the left. He crosses into the penalty area at full speed, but Ballas is able to clear it for a throw-in.
7'

Handwerker needs to be careful

The Regensburg left wing-back side fouls Amaechi and needs to be careful - he has already been cautioned.
6'

Robust Müller

The defender aggressively defends forward and collides with Ganaus in an aerial duel. The Regensburg player lands awkwardly on his back but can continue after a short breather.

Brave Underdogs

The newly promoted are pressing high up the pitch and disrupting Magdeburg's build-up play. Regensburg are not hiding on this road trip.
2'

The early warning

Handwerker tugs on Teixeira's shirt to prevents an attack down his left side. Clear tactical foul, deserved yellow card.
Kick-off!

Two returnees on the bench

Christian Titz has Daniel Heber and Lubambo Musonda, two regular starters who were recently missing, back in the squad, though they can only make the bench.

Magdeburg team news

Magdeburg must do without the suspended Baris Atik due to a suspension for yellow card acquisition, but that's not the only change: Philipp Hercher and Abu-Bekir El-Zein drop to the bench. New to the starting line-up are Falko Michel, Xavier Ameachi and Bryan Teixeira. Who exactly replaces Atik remains to be seen as the burden will likely be distributed across several shoulders.

Jahn team news

Last time out, Andreas Patz had made six changes to his starting XI, which was the foundation for Jahn's 2-0 victory over Schalke and as a result, the manager makes no alterations this time. The 17-year-old Ben Kieffer, the youngest player of the season, is thus allowed to make another start.

Magdeburg starting XI

Reimann - Hugonet, Mathisen, Müller - Gnaka - Teixeira, Nollenberger - Michel - Amaechi, Kaars, Burcu

Regensburg starting XI

Pollersbeck - Wurm, Ballas, Ziegele - Kieffer, Kühlwetter, Handwerker - Viet, Hein - Ganaus, Adamyan

Almost a perfect recipe for success

Under Christian Titz, Magdeburg have never lost against Regensburg (three wins, one draw), yet the manager still suffered a memorable defeat against Jahn: On 23 September 2018, he lost 0-5 with HSV at the Volksparkstadion.

Recent successes

In the first leg, one goal from Mo El Hankouri was enough for FCM to secure victory at the Jahnstadion. Regensburg's last win against Magdeburg was also a 1-0, during their home success in October 2022, when Achim Beierlorzer was still the manager of the Upper Palatinate side.

Pure tension

Duels are always fiercely contested between these teams. In the last few meetings, no team has ever won by more than a one-goal margin.

FCM on the rise

Magdeburg have overtaken Jahn in sporting terms in recent years, which is also reflected in the record. In the first four competitive matches between the two teams, Regensburg remained unbeaten and collected ten points, but in the last four encounters, it was the other way around, with Magdeburg recording three wins and one draw.
