Half-time: Hamburg 0-2 Braunschweig

What a turn-up for the books. Eintracht, fighting to stay afloat, have a deserved 2-0 lead over first-placed Hamburg. They've been superb across the pitch and taken their chances when they've come, even if there was a massive slice of luck for the second goal. HSV have it all to do...

Test of patience for HSV?

24'

Dompé!

The winger has been HSV's best outlet so far. Once again he cuts inside, his deflected shot dipping dangerously but flying wide. The ensuing corner comes to nothing.
22'

Nothing between them

It's been an evenly matched game so far. Eintracht are having a really good go at HSV, but the home defence is standing firm. No clear-cut chances at either end...
19'

No joy

Looking up

The visitors, on the other hand, could vacate 16th place for the first time since Matchday 22 if they earn a point. And that's where they'll stay, if Münster lose to Karlsruhe on Sunday.

Nine points ahead overnight?

The competition from Magdeburg, Kaiserslautern or Paderborn only play on Saturday and Sunday. With a victory, HSV could extend their lead over the dreaded relegation play-off spot to nine points, at least until tomorrow.

Two captains - one milestone

Hamburg's captain Schonlau and his counterpart Nikolaou stand on opposite sides of the coin toss, but today they share a special moment, as for both, it's their 100th game in the Bundesliga 2 for their respective clubs.

More on that Braunschweig side

The visitors recently celebrated an important 3-2 victory over Paderborn, with three substitutes that game who contributed significantly to the win now in the starting line-up. Philippe, Bell Bell and Marie start in place of Kaufmann, Polter and Ba.

Hamburg team news

In comparison to their 3-0 victory in Nuremberg, HSV make three changes. Hefti, Richter and Selke start in place of Muheim, Reis and Königsdörffer.

Braunschweig starting XI

Hoffmann - Jaeckel, Köhler, Nikolaou - Marvin Rittmüller, Krauße, Bell Bell - Marie, Tempelmann - Philippe, Tachie

HSV starting XI

Heuer Fernandes - Mikelbrencis, Schonlau, Elfadli, Hefti - Karabec, Poręba, Richter - Sahiti, Selke, Dompé

Scherning on facing HSV

"HSV have rightfully established themselves up there. No other team in the Bundesliga 2 can boast such quality in every position. However, each player knows their role for Friday evening and we also know that nothing is impossible in football."

Polzin on facing Braunschweig

"We're aware of their qualities, especially after the first game this season. They know exactly what they're doing against the ball. Then they're also dangerous in transition because they have players with a lot of pace in their squad. I'm ready for this challenge, and the lads are too."

Golden Glatzel

In five competitive matches for Hamburg against Braunschweig, Robert Glatzel has scored seven goals (three braces in Bundesliga 2 and one in the DFB Cup).

Ever-present

Braunschweig's Fabio Kaufmann is the only player from either side to have featured in all seven second-division encounters between these sides. He's even managed to score in each of his last two visits to Volksparkstadion.

A long time coming

The last time Braunschweig bagged points at Hamburg was 49 years ago. In September 1976, under former coach Branko Zebec, they achieved a 2-0 away victory in the Bundesliga, with goals scored by Reiner Hollmann and Wolfgang Frank.

Strong at home against Braunschweig

Hamburg have won their last eleven home matches (eight of them in the Bundesliga) against Braunschweig, scoring 38 goals in the process. That's at least two per match.

Corner turned

After seven consecutive defeats in all competitions against Hamburg, Braunschweig won their last encounter 3-1. It could have been more, given Johan Gomez also failed to convert a penalty against Daniel Heuer Fernandes.
