xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
According to the data, Karlsruhe could have already scored two goals, but the scoreboard still reads nil. The final phase is now underway.

Sparrows inspect the pitch

The Ulm players, like Kahvić here, are visibly in good spirits as they examine the Karlsruhe pitch.

Karlsruhe make one change

Karlsruhe manager Christian Eichner makes one change to the starting line-up from his last match (3-0 defeat in Darmstadt): Leon Jensen comes in for Nicolai Rapp, who serves a suspension due to yellow card accumulation.

Four changes for the visitors

New head coach Robert Lechleiter makes four changes to his starting xi compared to that in the last match (a 1-0 home defeat against Cologne): Gaal, Dressel, Keller and Krattenmacher all play in place of Hyryläinen and Rösch (both benched), and Meier and Stoll (both not selected).

Ulm starting XI

Ortag - Gaal, Reichert, Kolbe - Allgeier, Dressel, Brandt, Keller - Krattenmacher, Röser - Telalović

Karlsruhe starting XI

Weiß - Kobald, Franke, Beifus - Jung, Burnić, Jensen, Wanitzek, Herold - Schleusener, Kaufmann

Christian Eichner's view on Ulm

"It's difficult to come back against Ulm once you're behind. Last week against Cologne, the match could have gone the other way."

Robert Lechleiter's view on Karlsruhe

"We want to open up our game a bit more, be braver and score more goals. We need points, we must win matches."

Expect goals

Karlsruhe have scored 25 goals in their nine second-tier matches against Ulm.

Five out of six

Karlsruhe have won five of the last six competitive matches against Ulm, but their last home victory was almost exactly 38 years ago. On 14 March 1987, there was a 5-0 win in Bundesliga 2 under Winnie Schäfer, with Rainer Schütterle and Arno Glesius each scoring twice.

When Rangnick was Ulm coach...

The Sparrows are now visiting the Wildpark for a competitive match for the first time since August 1998, where in recent years they only played friendlies or faced Karlsruhe's second team. In 1998, under Ralf Rangnick, they achieved a 2-1 away victory in Bundesliga 2, with Dragan Trkulja scoring the winning goal from the penalty spot in the final minute.
