Week seven of the 2022/23 Bundesliga 2 campaign got underway on Friday night and it was a memorable evening for Braunschweig. Despite twice going behind, they picked up a 4-2 win over Nuremberg - their first league victory of the season. Their supporters would have had a sense of "here we go again" when Jens Castrop opened the scoring after 10 minutes and, despite levelling through Fabio Kaufmann soon after, they were behind again when Kwadwo Duah struck. The hosts rallied, however, and were on level terms at half-time thanks to Anthony Ujah. Second half goals from Immanuel Pherai and Kaufmann again then wrapped up a stirring win for Die Löwen.

Also on Friday night, Heidenheim briefly moved to the summit as they saw off visitors Fortuna at the Voith-Arena. Adrian Beck had the home team in front midway through the first half before Dawid Kownacki's fourth goal of the season restored parity on the hour mark. It looked as if both sides would settle for a point apiece until Tim Kleindiest fired into the roof of the Fortuna net from close range, and with just three minutes remaining on the clock.

Greuther Fürth 2-2 St. Pauli

On Saturday, Marcel Hartel’s second goal of the season gave the visitors a 19th-minute lead as Pauli looked to heap further misery on their hosts, who were still in search of their first league win of the campaign. It was an advantage that Pauli would take into the break but one that was turned on its head seven minutes after the interval. First Branimir Hrgota equalised and then Jackson Irvine put into his own net as Fürth suddenly found themselves in front. Leart Paqarada then missed a penalty with time running out, but Fürth’s dreams of a long-awaited league win were shattered when Connor Metcalfe provided and 85th-minute equaliser that means the Cloverleaves remain winless after seven attempts.
