Glatzel chance!

A great opening for Glatzel to put the game to bed, but he gets the timing of his header wrong as it goes wide of the target.

Roßbach sent off

A second yellow card for Damian Roßbach sees him leave the field of play. A blow to Hansa's hopes of nicking a point, you'd think.

Rostock on top!

Another effort for the home side, with Ingelsson forcing Heuer Fernandes into a diving stop. Can they make this pressure count?
71'

Unlucky again!

This time, Verhoek strokes home via the post, but he is also offside and the goal therefore doesn't stand.
69'

So close!!

Rostock think they have an equaliser when Svante Ingelsson slots past Daniel Heuer Fernandes, but the offside flag is raised and the goal is chalked off for offside! Should give them belief to keep going, though.

Chance!

Bakery Jatta gets his head on a free-kick, but can only put his effort over the bar.

HOW??

How have Hamburg not scored? First, Kolke makes a save, before another effort is cleared off the line. Then, a combination of Kolke and the post denies Dompe. Still just the one goal in it!

Hamburg lead

Reis' late first-half strike means HSV go into the interval in front. Walter will be happy, but Glöckner will be eager for his side to show more in the final third as they look to get something out of this match.

The view from Hamburg

"We have great respect for the opponent, both teams will demand everything from each other," said Hamburg boss Tim Walter as he carried out his respective media commitments. "We have to counter with our means. I expect a heated atmosphere, but that's exactly what we like."
camera-photo

The view from Rostock

This encounter, of course, is a north-German derby, a fact which is not lost on Rostock manager Patrick Glöckner. "I'm looking forward to the Nordderby, the fans and the atmosphere," he said during his pre-match press conference. "I hope we can transfer that energy to the pitch. It will be important for both the fans and the players to work together as one."

Head-to-head

Hamburg have dominated the last ten meetings between the two sides, winning seven, including on their last three visits to Rostock. However, 'Die Hanseaten' were victorious in the last match-up, winning 1-0 at the Volksparkstadion back in July, and will be looking to repeat that success today.

Bundesliga calling for Hamburg?

Today offers the visitors the opportunity to put some distance between themselves and Heidenheim in third. They have won four of their last five games, including a 4-2 victory over Eintracht Braunschweig last time out and, after a five-year hiatus from the top tier, it could finally be their time to return to the elite. Three points here would only help their chances.

Rostock looking for first home win of 2023

Hansa started the new calendar year with a 2-0 away defeat at the hands of high-flying Heidenheim, and they will be eager to get up and running at the Ostseestadion in 2023 against another of the Bundesliga 2's best sides. While they are 11th in the table, they sit just two points above the relegation play-off spot, so a draw or better here would be a huge boost.
