Conclusion
This match ends goalless. Based on xGoals Hertha would have 'deserved' a goal, however, Nuremberg held their ground well. In the second half neither side could be seen as dominant and each had their moments. Nuremberg climbs to eighth place, at least until tomorrow, Hertha likewise to twelfth.

Hertha again
Cuisance takes a bit too long to line up his shot and Knoche just manages to throw himself in front of the ball. That could have been a good shooting opportunity.

Yilmaz!
Nuremberg on the attack once again: Tzimas finds Yilmaz on the left, who cuts inside and aims for the near post. Ernst is quick to get down and parries it for a corner - good chance!

Ten minutes to go
Who will land the lucky punch? It's hard to pick a favourite in the second half.

Over the bar!
Maza comes down the left, leaves Janisch for dead and then cuts inside: The subsequent shot goes well over the crossbar.

Not much happening
In the last ten minutes or so, there has been no goal threat from either side - it seems as if one goal could decide the evening.

He interrupts a Nuremberg counter-attack by pulling on a shirt and is shown a yellow card.

Strong Janisch
With nearly 70% of duels won today, he's the player with the best tackle success rate on the pitch.

Protests! Penalty?
After a cross from Reese, the ball bounces off Yilmaz's own foot onto his hand. The whole of Berlin protests, but after a brief VAR check by Johann Pfeifer, referee Osmers sticks to his decision - handball from close range, no penalty!

Lubach makes way for winter signing Antiste. Will they be more offensive from now on?

Reese!
Second-best chance of the match: Klemens sets up the left winger, who then goes solo and dribbles his way to within a few metres of the goal. Powerful shot, but it hits the side netting. That was close!

Zeefuik sees yellow
The Dutchman arrives late and steps on Janisch's foot, for which he receives a booking.

All around
Hertha have regained possession and are dictating the tempo once again. The ball is circulating around the opposition penalty area in a handball-like fashion.

Nuremberg want more
The visitors have had more of the game so far this half, and look likely to score soon.
46'
Castrop opens!
A long-range shot on goal is already more from the visitors than in the entire first half combined. It's still too central, and Ernst collects it easily.

Half-time summary
Half-time in Berlin, where we're still waiting for a truly big chance. Reese had the best opportunity of the match, while Nuremberg are yet to make an impact offensively. The second half will show whether the visitors can step up their game or if both teams will share the points.

Added time
Not much has happened, so there's only one minute added on.
42'
By chance...
... a blocked shot falls to Reese, who attempts a first-time volley. Reichert stretches, but the ball still sails wide of the goal.
38'
Reese counters
However, he's quite isolated up front, so the attack fizzles out against Knoche, who clears for a throw-in. They start building up play from the back again.
35'
Little respite
The home side are giving Nuremberg little time to catch their breath. However, their attacks are still not very effective.
32'
Karafiát sees yellow
A misplaced pass from Drexler to Karafiát forces him to make amends with a sliding tackle, otherwise Reese would have been through on goal. He receives a booking for this.
28'
The first big chance!
Scherhant dribbles his way to the byline and then delivers a low cross into the six-yard box. Reichert just manages to get there before Niederlechner, but punches it straight to Reese. He shoots at the half-empty net, Reichert rushes back and claws it off the line. That was close!

Kenny's corner
The right-back looks for Niederlechner at the far post and finds him. The striker tries to make the net ripple with a bouncing shot, misses and sees the ball go our for a goal kick.

The same old game
Apparently, this is becoming their chosen method for the evening: Reese once again seeks a long throw-in towards the penalty spot, but this time the Club manages to clear it decisively.

The first "shot"
Reese's extremely long throw-in bounces off Knoche's foot and then finds Niederlechner, who also fails to make proper contact with the ball and hits it several metres over the crossbar.

Can a set-piece make the difference?
No, not yet. From the right half-space, but from quite a distance, Lubach sends the ball straight into the arms of Ernst.

Uneventful final third
Neither Hertha nor Nuremberg managed to enter the final third in the first eight minutes or so, thus there is no danger to report yet.

Dárdai faster than Tzimas
The Greek striker starts to sprint and tries to beat the Hertha defence on the counter-attack. Only Dárdai can keep up and runs the ball out of play.

Control, then ball lost
Nuremberg lose possession early on following a misunderstanding between Castrop and Yilmaz, now Hertha can build up play.

They won't be this young together again!
Nuremberg's starting eleven today has an average age of 23.2 years - this is the youngest Nuremberg starting lineup since March 1986! Back then, in the Bundesliga, manager Heinz Höher fielded young talents like Stefan Reuter and Hansi Dorfner in the 3-1 home victory against Schalke.
Double substitution
New manager, new opportunity - for example, for goalkeeper Ernst. The keeper had recently lost his regular spot to Marius Gersbeck, but now gets his first appearance in the second half of the season. The second change: Michael Cuisance sits out for the first time since Matchday 3, with veteran Florian Niederlechner starting in his place.
Single substitution
Only change for the Club compared to the 2-0 against Ulm: Oliver Villadsen sits on the bench for the first time in five months, Tim Janisch gets a chance to start in his place. The 19-year-old was previously in the starting lineup only on Matchday 17 in the home win against Braunschweig.
This is how Hertha lines up
Ernst - Kenny, Gechter, Dárdai, Zeefuik - Maza, Klemens, Karbownik, Reese (c) - Cuisance - Niederlechner, Scherhant
This is how Nuremberg lines up
Reichert - Drexler, Knoche (c), Karafiát, Yilmaz - Justvan, Jander, Lubach, Castrop - Tzimas, Janisch
What Miroslav Klose has said
"This week we focused on ourselves to make it difficult for Berlin to get the ball. We need to be flexible. We're a bit braver at home, but we know we can do that away from home as well."
What Stefan Leitl has said
"We know the lads and the team, but we need to get a feel for them first. That's why we'll have many conversations and push ourselves to the limit on Friday. We're prioritising this match to get three points and then push forward in the coming weeks. The squad has everything needed to be successful; we have experience, we have talent, and many other attributes that we want to bring onto the pitch."
First match under Leitl
With former Hannover 96 coach Stefan Leitl, Hertha have quickly found a successor to Christian Fiél, who was dismissed last weekend. The incoming 47-year-old says he is looking forward to "working with the players, the team around the club and the fans". A home win on debut would represent a perfect start.
Klose likes Hertha
Miroslav Klose scored more goals against Hertha than any other club in his career, notching 11 in 16 Bundesliga matches.
The Championship Final of 1927
The first of the 52 competitive matches between the two clubs to date was the championship final in 1927, where FCN won 2-0 in Grunewald and became German champions.
Last away victory almost 11 years ago
Nuremberg's last win over Hertha was a 3-1 home victory in October 2023, while they last claimed all three points at the Olympiastadion on 2 February 2014 (3-1 in the Bundesliga under Gertjan Verbeek).
Breaking the duck
The 2-0 victory in the earlier meeting between the two this term was Hertha's first win over Nuremberg in the second division. Before that there were four FCN wins and four draws at this level. Considering all competitive matches, however, the Berliners have won four of the last six games in this fixture.
