Schalke secured promotion to the Bundesliga after beating Fortuna Düsseldorf at home on Matchday 32. They were confirmed as Bundesliga 2 champions the following day after Paderborn failed to beat Elversberg.

For the first time in Bundesliga history, the bottom three sides in the table are all locked on the same number of points, in this case 26, ahead of the final weekend. And it's the first time since 2014/15 that we go into the final day with no team already relegated.

As it stands, Wolfsburg are only outside of the bottom two on goal difference, leading their two rivals by three goals.

While Schalke have become runaway champions, a trio of sides enter Matchday 34 still hoping to earn automatic promotion or, at the very least, a shot at the play-off.

As it stands, Elversberg are best-placed to finish as runners-up. They have been on the brink of promotion before, of course, finishing third last season before agonisingly losing to Heidenheim in the play-off courtesy of a last-minute second-leg winner.

After their 3-1 victory over Leverkusen last time out, Stuttgart begin the day in pole position, occupying fourth place on 61 points with a goal difference of +22. All that stands between the swashbuckling Swabians – who have registered the second-largest goal tally of 69 behind only champions Bayern Munich – and a return to the grandest stage in European football is one final performance away to Eintracht Frankfurt, which - needless to say - is easier said than done.

Assan Ouédraogo was enjoying an unchecked trajectory towards the top of the game before a knee injury derailed his season in January, previously playing his way into Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany squad and scoring on his debut against Slovakia. Now back fit and firing for RB Leipzig, he has one last chance to impress, at Freiburg on Saturday. Less than 1% of managers own him, and at 2.71m he could be worth a punt.

Luka Vušković joined Hamburg on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur last summer, and his dominant performances from the heart of the promoted side’s defence are a key reason behind HSV securing their top-flight status for 2026/27.

Vušković has matched striker Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer and talented Arsenal loanee Fábio Vieira – an attacking midfielder – with a team-high six Bundesliga goals from centre-back, one of which was a Goal of the Season contender against Hamburg’s Nordderby rivals Werder Bremen. 

That’s not to say Vušković neglects his defensive obligations, though. He has the best duel success rate in the Bundesliga this season with 70 percent, while he is second league-wide for passes intercepted. The future looks to be extremely bright indeed.

Bayern debuted their new home kit in their UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain on 6 May.

The two-tone red with white trim and gold fringe number has been flying off the shelves, with the addition of a badge featuring the team's cockatoo mascot proving particularly popular with fans.

Key stats

Born on the outskirts of Paris, Gadou started out at French lower-league outfit ES Nangis before enrolling in a grassroots programme at his middle school as an 11-year-old. He was initially deployed as a midfielder but soon settled into a central defensive role – thanks in part to his tall stature.

The switch enabled Gadou to hone the leadership skills that convinced Paris Saint-Germain to sign the young defender, who was still only 13 at the time, in 2020. He was handed his debut for the U19s in late 2022 but was soon representing the Parisian club on the European stage.

Impressive displays in PSG’s 2022/23 and 2023/24 UEFA Youth League campaigns caught the eye of first-team boss Luis Enrique, who named Gadou in his squad for a first-round Coupe de France tie with US Revel in January 2024.
