James Rodriguez, Bayern Munich

The Colombia international came to Bayern on loan from Real Madrid with a point to prove. And boy has he done just that! It's clear: James' sublime, game-tilting talent is undamaged by his underwhelming spell in the Spanish capital. The former Monaco man has underscored again and again the uplifting effect he can have on a side's fortunes, slotting seamlessly into the Bayern set-up and — just when we thought it wasn't possible — made them more clinical, more spectacular and even more successful. The free-kick against Leverkusen and the masterclass in the Klassiker romp against Dortmund are just two of the highlights of a benchmark-setting first Bundesliga season.

Kevin-Prince Boateng, Eintracht Frankfurt

Back in the Bundesliga since last summer, the well-travelled Ghanaian put down roots in Germany's financial capital and watched his — and his team's — stock rise. Now 31, the Berlin-born midfielder has been a key figure for coach Niko Kovac, helping blend the cosmopolitan squad to make them greater than the sum of their parts.

Michael Gregoritsch, Augsburg

A fish out of water at times in the heavily scrutinised goldfish bowl of Hamburg, the Austrian has been far happier in the smaller pool of the WWK Arena, and things have gone swimmingly. His understanding with Alfred Finnbogason has been a boon for Manuel Baum's side with the pair providing more than half their team's goals.
