Borussia Dortmund have secured the services of highly rated teenage attacking midfielder Sergio Gomez from Barcelona.

The 17-year-old, who is widely regarded as one of the hottest prospects in Spanish football, has signed a what was only disclosed as a "long-term contract" with the Yellow-Blacks, becoming their second January acquisition following the arrival of Swiss defender Manuel Akanji.

Gomez will initially link up with BVB's Under-19 side before making the step up to the Borussia first team on 1 July 2019.

"Our new number 34 - Sergio Gomez!"

"I'm grateful to Borussia Dortmund for this opportunity to play at one of Europe's biggest clubs," Gomez told the official BVB website. "I just want to give it my all from my first training onwards on Monday. I feel like I can contribute a lot to this club and I can play in various positions across the attack, but first of all I need to adapt to the coach's philosophy."

Born in September 2000, Gomez made his debut for the Catalan giants' 'B' team in a 1-1 draw with Real Zaragoza in January. He started three of Barcelona's four 2017/18 UEFA Youth League group matches, scoring the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Sporting Lisbon in September.

Gomez also netted four times at the 2017 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in India last summer, lifting his overall tally for Spain's U-17s to eight goals in 22 appearances.
