RB Leipzig have added promising French defender Ibrahima Konate to their squad, signing the teenager to a five-year deal.

Konate has played just 12 senior first team games - all of them last season with French second division side Sochaux - but that was enough for Leipzig.

The Bundesliga runners-up have snapped up the 18-year-old France Under-17 centre-back, and sporting director Ralf Rangnick believes they have unearthed another brilliant raw talent.

"We've been watching Ibrahima Konate for some time," the former Schalke boss said. "He's a young, highly-gifted player who'll strengthen our defence. We're very happy to have been able to bring in this top talent and that Ibrahima can take the next step in his career here.

"He shows great qualities despite being only 18, and we're convinced he'll bring us a lot of joy."

Watch: A tactical masterclass with Leipzig

Konate is the latest in a growing line of French youngsters to move to the Bundesliga, and follows hot on the heels of 18-year-old Dan-Axel Zagadou, who joined Borussia Dortmund earlier in June.
