- Schalke hit six in their first pre-season friendly.
- Goretza stars with two early goals while Nastasic returns from injury.
- Royal Blues next face Scolari's Guangzhou Evergrande on 7 July.
FC Schalke 04 cruised to a 6-1 over Guangzhou R&F FC in their first friendly game of their pre-season tour to China.
The players had trained hard ahead of the opening friendly of their tour, and their work evidently paid dividends, as they raced into a 3-0 lead inside 28 minutes, with Leon Goretzka twice adding to an early Johannes Geis effort.
Nastasic makes comeback
Zhizhao Chen gave the home supporters something to cheer about when he pulled one back on 41 minutes, but Schalke reasserted their dominance in the second half with two goals either side of the break, before Di Santo completed the rout late on.
It was a highly satisfactory way to kick off the tour and was made all the more pleasing for head coach Markus Weinzierl after Serbian defender Matija Nastasic emerged from a substitute appearance unscathed following an extended spell on the sidelines.
The men from Gelsenkirchen next play Luiz Felipe Scolari’s Guangzhou Evergrande FC on Thursday 7 July, before returning home two days later.
