Austrian midfielder Alessandro Schöpf has completed his transfer from Bundesliga 2 side 1. FC Nürnberg to FC Schalke 04.

'Great potential'

The 21-year-old has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with the Royal Blues after undergoing a medical at the club’s Orlando training camp on Saturday.

"We’re delighted that this move has gone through," sporting director Horst Heldt told schalke04.de. "Alessandro is a versatile midfielder with great potential. At just 21 years old, his development is far from over. He fits perfectly with our philosophy."

Schöpf began his career in his homeland before being snapped up by FC Bayern München’s development side in 2009. He signed a three-year professional contract with the record German champions in 2013, but failed to make a first team appearance for the club and signed for Nürnberg in 2014.

He made 51 appearances in 18 months in Franconia, scoring 11 goals and providing ten assists.

"Our new signing Alessandro Schöpf is having his medical."
