Leon Bailey collects the ball on the right-hand side. Leon Bailey ghosts past one defender, sneaks inside another. Leon Bailey shapes to shoot... WHAT A GOAL FROM LEON BAILEY! Bayer Leverkusen's wing magician set the Bundesliga alight in 2017/18 - but that promises to be just the start for one of the most exciting young players in the business.
Club: Bayer Leverkusen
Country: Jamaica (U23s)
Having taken six months to settle in following his move from Belgian side Genk in January 2017, Bailey lit up the Bundesliga last season. The Leverkusen flier registered nine goals and six assists in 30 Bundesliga appearances, averaging 29 sprints per game. He also engaged opposition defenders in one-on-one battles a mean 19.8 times per 90 minutes, whilst hitting top speeds of 21mph.
Plays a bit like: Arjen Robben
The pace, the trickery, the inside run, the preternatural gift to leave defenders in his wake and THAT left foot: at times, Bailey is a mirror image of Bayern Munich legend Arjen Robben. The Jamaican might not be the Bundesliga's right-wing king quite yet, but he is surely the first in line to take the throne.
Watch: Leon Bailey - the new Arjen Robben?
Did you know?
Despite representing Jamaica once at U23 level - scoring a free-kick against the Cayman Islands in March 2015 - Bailey is still to decide his senior international future.
Rumour has it he could be eligible for England through his adoptive family, as well as Malta and Belgium. If he sticks around and satisfies residency requirements, there's even a possibility of him one day playing for Germany.
Oh, and he's also good pals with a certain Usain Bolt...
What they're saying
"The ball is my life, so I have to live it." - Bailey
"You can't acquire his technique and gifts by training. He's great fun to play with." - Leverkusen midfielder Karim Bellarabi
