Eintracht Frankfurt pair Luka Jovic and Sebastien Haller are outdoing Juventus duo Cristiano Ronaldo and Mario Mandzukic as the most prolific strike partnership in Europe's top four leagues so far this season.

Strike partnerships may not be as prevalent as they once were, with football’s once ubiquitous 4-4-2 formation having long since made way for a plethora of tactical set-ups. But as current Ballon d’Or holder Ronaldo and Juve teammate Mandzukic can attest, two up top still works...

…and the best of them lives in the Bundesliga. In Jovic and Haller, Frankfurt have a pair of strikers who have helped themselves to 17 goals this season; a Europe-best mark.

Jovic smashed in five in one game on Matchday 8, helping his side to a 7-1 win over Fortuna Düsseldorf. Haller had opened the scoring that day before laying on two of Jovic’s haul himself. Jovic, a mobile left-footer, and Haller, a battering ram alongside, have gone on to plunder nine and eight respectively.

Splitting those soaring Eagles from their Juventus cohort at the top of Europe’s goalscoring charts are Celta Vigo pair Iago Aspas and Maxi Gomez, who have scored 14 of their side’s 22 La Liga goals this season. Ronaldo (8) and Manzukic (5) have accounted for 13 all told in Serie A, just one more than Timo Werner and Yussuf Poulsen, who have six apiece for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.

Watch: Jovic, ably assisted by Haller, put on a goalscoring masterclass against Fortuna!

“We just try to have fun playing together,” Haller told bundesliga.com. “We want to put a lot of pressure on the opponent, but have fun. We just want to work for the group and our teammates, and it works!”

Leaving Ronaldo and Co. for dust, it’s hard to disagree.
