With the skill set of Edinson Cavani and the confidence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, RB Leipzig goal-scoring fiend Jean-Kevin Augustin needn't worry about the fabled sophomore slump in 2018/19.

Jean-Kevin Augustin

Age: 21
Position: Forward
Club: RB Leipzig
Country: France (U21s)

Key stats

Augustin made 39 appearances in all competitions in his debut Leipzig campaign, hitting 12 goals and registering six assists. Nine of the 5'8" Frenchman's double-digit haul fell in the Bundesliga, spread over three separate bursts: three in one injury-interrupted spell between Matchdays 4-8, three in successive outings between Matchdays 23-25 and three - including his first Bundesliga brace - in the final two games of the season.

Plays a bit like:Edinson Cavani

Augustin is powerful, direct and capable of making things happen outside, as well as inside, the box. The 21-year-old was deployed exclusively as the nominal central striker in 2017/18, but could often be seen sneaking into the wider areas - where he is able to use his pace and quick feet to stretch opposition defenders - dovetailing with Timo Werner in a manner not too dissimilar to fearsome Uruguay duo Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez.

Did you know?

Augustin honed his craft in the company of Cavani and Ibrahimovic for boyhood club Paris Saint-Germain, and has played alongside Kylian Mbappe for his country. In fact, when France won the UEFA Under-19 European Championship in 2016, it was Augustin - not 2018 FIFA World Cup winner Mbappe - who finished as the tournament's top scorer, with six goals in five games.

What they're saying

"He's an extraordinary player. He's quick and composed in front of goal." - Leipzig defender Willi Orban

"He's the full package. He's going to be a really important player for RB Leipzig." - former Leipzig head coach Ralph Hasenhüttl
