James Rodriguez has been ruled out of Bayern Munich's trip to RB Leipzig in the second round of the DFB Cup on Wednesday night (kick-off 20:45CEST/18:45GMT).

The 26-year-old playmaker, who made his second Bundesliga start of the season in the Matchday 9 win at Hamburg, is suffering from a back problem and has not travelled with the squad.

It is as yet unknown if the Real Madrid loanee will be available for the two sides' Bundesliga showdown at the Allianz Arena on Saturday evening.

Jupp Heynckes is already without first-choice goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, influential forward Thomas Müller and left-back Juan Bernat (not match fit), but defensive midfielder Javi Martinez is available again after shaking off a shoulder problem which kept him out of the recent wins over Celtic and Hamburg.

Bayern are three from three since Heynckes returned to the club for a fourth stint, following the dismissal of Carlo Ancelotti on 28 September.
