The six stars I suggested collected a combined 63 points, while Max Kruse (14 points) and Theodor Gebre Selassie (15 points) both made it into the Official Fantasy Bundesliga Team of the Week! I’ve set the bar high for myself, but I’m optimistic that these five players won’t disappoint this weekend.
Sebastian Langkamp (DF, Hertha Berlin, 10M)
Berlin were second best in every department in their 1-0 loss to Mainz. However, with 15 challenges won, centre-back Sebastian Langkamp was not just one of the shining lights for Hertha, but also managed to picked up 10 points despite ending up on the losing side. Up against Wolfsburg’s talented front line, his qualities at the back will be called upon on Saturday. It’s worth noting though that Hertha have proven incredibly difficult to beat at the Olympiastadion so there’s a lot to suggest that Langkamp could be a very prudent purchase this weekend.
Kyriakos Papadopoulos (DF, Hamburg, 9.25M)
The Greek centre-back was sorely missed in the Nordderby, but having seen out his suspension is expected to return to the starting line-up for the visit of Darmstadt. Up against a side that have failed to pick up a point and scored just six goals on foreign soil, HSV’s defensive stalwart is an excellent option this weekend. The fact he also poses a real threat from set-pieces is an added bonus.
Florian Grillitsch (MF, Werder Bremen, 9.3M)
Like most of the Bremen team, Florian Grillitsch has also come on leaps and bounds in recent weeks. The young Austrian regularly pops up in front of goal as part of Werder’s new 3-1-4-2 system given that the midfielders are called upon to burst forward when the strikers drift out wide. His third goal of the season seems like it will only be a matter of time and, on top of his goalscoring potential, he’s not one to shirk a challenge either. A combination that should produce positive fantasy results against Ingolstadt.
Kerem Demirbay (MF, Hoffenheim, 4.05M)
Kerem Demirbay’s name is one that has popped up regularly in my features this season and on Matchday 29 he showed why. In the eight-goal thriller between Hoffenheim and Gladbach, the 23-year-old bagged his first-ever Bundesliga brace. A lot of you will probably already have the bargain buy in your squads already. However, if you – like me – sold him when he spent a short spell on the sidelines through injury, then this is the time to bring him back into the fold.
Bobby Wood (ST, Hamburg, 8.3M)
Watch: Bobby Wood's goal against Gladbach on Matchday 24
Just like Papadopoulos, the USMNT international was a noticeable absentee in the Nordderby. The game in Bremen – despite the goal from Michael Gregoritsch – demonstrated just how important Wood is for Hamburg’s frontline. That’s why there’s no doubt that the Hawaiian native will feature from kick-off against Darmstadt. Alongside the five goals he’s scored this season, Wood wins an average of over 12 challenges a game on average. What are you waiting for? Sign him up!
So I’ve opened the door for you to be successful in Official Fantasy Bundesliga, now it’s up to you whether you go through it or not.
