USA international striker Aron Johannsson came off the bench to score to help Werder Bremen pick up a precious point as they came from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Borussia Mönchengladbach in Friday's Matchday 25 curtain-raiser.

Gladbach 2-2 Bremen

Goals: 1-0 Zakaria 5', 2-0 Moisander o.g. 33, 2-1 Delaney 59', 2-2 Johannsson 78'

Last weekend's win at Hannover had Gladbach cantering again after a four-game losing streak, and the Foals were quickly into their running despite the snow on the Borussia-Park pitch thanks to Denis Zakaria's early strike. The Switzerland international had inadvertently been played through by Bremen's Thomas Delaney, and the visitors made life more difficult still with Niklas Moisander diverting a Zakaria cross into his own net to double the hosts' lead.

Another Bremen error — a miscued clearance from Robert Bauer — almost giftwrapped Raul Bobadilla a third before the interval; Marco Friedl's superb through ball gave Delaney a chance to reduce Bremen's arrears that the Denmark international could not take shortly after the break. A half-time substitute, Johannsson might have scored before Delaney did with a header. Johannsson wasted another opportunity, but made amends by finishing former Gladbach man Max Kruse's cross at close range.
