The 21-year-old had another year to run on his current deal at Gladbach but both clubs confirmed on Thursday that he will be moving to Dortmund in the summer. The Germany under-21 international has agreed a contract that will tie him to Dortmund until June 2022.
He has followed in the footsteps of Bayer Leverkusen defender Ömer Toprak by agreeing to link up with Thomas Tuchel’s side in time for next season.
“Mo Dahoud is a highly talented and exciting central midfield player who we have observed intensively for several years,” Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said. “He has already demonstrated that he can play at the top level.”
Dahoud was born in Syria but moved to Germany later that year. He joined Gladbach’s youth academy from Fortuna Düsseldorf in 2010 and made his Bundesliga debut during a 3-1 win over Dortmund in April 2015. He has played 52 Bundesliga matches, scoring six goals, as well as 17 European matches across the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.
This season Dahoud has scored once in 19 league matches and earlier this month he netted in Gladbach’s Europa League last 16 tie against Schalke.
