With a top-four finish in their sights, FC Schalke 04 have received a boost with the return of first-team regulars Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Leon Goretzka to parts of the club's training session on Monday.

Choupo-Moting has been out for several weeks, making his last appearance on 21 February, coming off after 22 minutes of the Royal Blues’ 1-1 draw with VfB Stuttgart.

Goretzka, meanwhile, has not featured since the UEFA Europa League Round of 32 second leg defeat to FC Shakhtar Donetsk in which he dislocated his shoulder.

Gladbach game crucial

Both players have taken significant steps on their road to recovery, but are unlikely to feature against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday night, a 'six-pointer' in the eyes of one player who has profited from the absence of Goretzka. "With a look at the table it’s very important that we take points from this game," said Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg on the club’s official website. "We’ve got to learn our lessons from the defeat in Berlin and keep looking forward."
