Hertha took an early lead against their fellow European aspirants in the German capital, with Vedad Ibisevic teeing up Salomon Kalou for the opener with little more than 10 minutes on the clock.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang restored parity soon after the restart before Plattenhardt – whose earlier cross had sailed narrowly beyond Kalou for what might have been the Ivorian’s second – stepped up to stroke home a free-kick worthy of winning any game.
