Greek defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos joined Hamburger SV on loan in January with a view to getting his season back on track. He probably did not expect that to happen against his parent club Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
Papadopoulos got a vital goal in Hamburg's 1-0 win on Friday to put a frustrating spell behind him. Before the winter break, the 24-year-old had made just one appearance on loan at RB Leipzig after being forced to undergo knee surgery in November.
Hamburg said they were signing a player with huge fighting spirit and Papadopoulos proved as much by expertly placing a header into the corner on 76 minutes.
Now wearing the number nine jersey, normally associated with a striker, he put loyalties aside to help Hamburg win for just the fourth time this season. But will his courageous efforts be enough to convince you to make him your Matchday 19 MVP?
