FC Augsburg head coach Dirk Schuster has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect, the club confirmed on Wednesday. Current youth-team coach Manuel Baum will take over until further notice.

"After a detailed analysis of the current situation, the directors at FC Augsburg have come to the view that differing ideas about the club's development and style of play prevail," said a club statement. "For that reason, FC Augsburg has decided to release head-coach Dirk Schuster, as well as his assistant coaches Sascha Franz and Frank Steinmetz, from his duties with immediate effect."

Baum, 37, current head coach of the Augsburg youth team, will take the reins of the first team "until further notice" and will lead Wednesday afternoon's training session in the build-up to Saturday's Matchday 15 meeting with Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Schuster, 48, took over at Augsburg in the summer after securing SV Darmstadt 98's survival last season and is the sixth Bundesliga manager to lose be relieved of his duties this season: all of those six clubs occupy the current bottom six. Augsburg currently sit 13th, four points clear of the relegation play-off place.
