The Bundesliga’s first ever female referee took control of Bayern Munich's match on Saturday, a 5-0 victory away to Chemnitzer FC in the DFB Cup first round.

It was the first time ever that 38-year-old Steinhaus has refereed a match involving Bayern, as she prepares for her debut season in the Bundesliga.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side travelled to third division Chemnitzer in the first round of the DFB Cup, easing their way into the next round with a comfortable victory. Each Bundesliga team must play away from home in the competition’s opening stage, with defending champions Borussia Dortmund facing sixth-tier FC Rielasingen-Arlen and RB Leipzig travelling to Dorfmerkingen.

The FIFA referee was involved in the recent Women’s European Championships in the Netherlands.

Last season, she took charge of eight Bundesliga 2 matches, seven third division games and one DFB Cup game between VfR Aalen vs. Nürnberg.

Steinhaus's involvement as a referee in the Bundesliga is one of a host of new additions to the league for the 2017/18 season.
