So often Bayern Munich’s bogey team of late, Hoffenheim took an early two-goal lead at the Allianz Arena only to see Robert Lewandowski, Jerome Boateng, Kingsley Coman ,Arturo Vidal and Sandro Wagner score to secure a 5-2 win for the record champions.

Bayern Munich 5-2 Hoffenheim

Goals: 0-1 Uth (3’), 0-2 Gnabry (12’), 1-2 Lewandowski (21’), 2-2 Boateng (25’), 3-2 Coman (63’), 4-2 Vidal (66’), 5-2 Wagner (90')

David Alaba was restored to Bayern’s starting line-up after a recent illness and stung Oliver Baumann’s gloves inside the first minute with a shot from range, but it was Hoffenheim who took the lead, with Mark Uth stroking home his 10th goal of the season after Sven Ulreich had parried a Serge Gnabry penalty which the Bayern-owned forward had earned. Gnabry got his moment in the sun soon after, capitalising on some poor Bayern defending to lash home from outside the box. The game was turned on its head inside the half-hour, though. First Lewandowski turned in Joshua Kimmich’s speculative attempt from under Baumann’s nose; and then Boateng headed Arjen Robben’s in-swinging beyond Baumann for 2-2.

Uth looked busy at the start of the second half, and would have been clean through on the Bayern goal had Gnabry not over-hit his through-ball. At the other end Coman carved open some space for himself but failed to find an unmarked Robben, lurking at the back post. The Frenchman made amends soon after, though, picking up on Lewandowski’s delightful chipped through-ball before steering a shot into the far corner, and Bayern made sure of the result when Vidal headed home another Robben corner or 4-2. Late substitute Wagner then added gloss to the scoreline in the last minute, forcing home Rafinha's cross with the final act of the game.
